Anyone trying to use Krisflyer miles- forget it, they are useless. After flying First Class suites we accumulated quite a few miles, but trying to use them on Virgin, Air New Zealand, or to upgrade a relative on Singapore economy flight was completely unsuccessful; we won't be flying SQ again!

I recommend all of my clients to throw them across to Velocity these days, most people will make more use of the status on DJ than SQ.

Not my experience.Able to get 2 J redemptions for our recent trip to Singapore 6 weeks out and got 2 J redemptions return to JFK in the December holidays 6 weeks ago.

Availability in J seems pretty good - better than QF which is my primary FF scheme - when I last looked. I was looking 6-9 months in advance.

I've transferred 90K points from Amex for a Y->J upgrade, but 24 hours laters (once the points had transferred) the J upgrade was no longer available. But this was a for a flight in 4 weks time and a fairly busy time (end of June). So looking to use these points for a family holiday.

I've used them on SQ and NZ with no problems, and I particularly like that you can make date changes to SQ redemptions with no fees.

There's heaps of availability in SQ J & F as long as you look far enough in advance. But IMHO DJ miles are near useless for anything other than domestic rewards. I could see plenty of availability on SQ J SIN-[ADL,BNE] for the times I wanted, but DJ could only see Y. I didn't even ask for SIN-MEL (which I really wanted) as the cost goes up from 60,000 miles to 120,000. I ended up using 45,000 UA miles to get SIN-MEL. An added advantage was that it only cost me $36 in taxes as against the $210~ DJ wanted for SIN-BNE in Y.

Not a big fan of SQ attitude to FFs although I travel on SQ quite often. However, redemption has never been a big problem for me even when booking two weeks prior to travel.

Never really had any trouble myself. I could even get a redemption just before Chinese New Year last year, only a couple of months out, although that was in Y.

And I highly disagree.

And I always highly disagree to first time whinge posts, sorry.

However in my experience, I am must happier with SQ than with QF in terms of redemption, and at least going to the many cities in Europe it takes usually two flights versus the mandatory three with QF redemption.

hmmm...in the past two years have flown self and family on SQ Y,J & F redemptions to Singapore, Tokyo, Lax, Danang, Hanoi, Auckland, Queenstown, Siem Rep, Zurich (twice), Milan, Shanghai, Manila.

Like all redemptions, keep the booking options open.

Like Alby our group have really enjoyed SQ Kris Flyer points and it is our largest travel supplier for long haul runs to Europe,
UK and USA.

At midday June 8 I logged into SQ web site and secured F Saver PEK-SIN-MEL on June 9 dep PEK 16:45. Flt late leaving PEK and missed SIN connection - SQ stumped me up in Crowne Plaza at Changi for night and shunted me onto 09:55 flt SIN-MEL next morn.

I agree whole heartedly with all you SQ experts - DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to secure F or J Saver redemptions - SEND ALL YOUR PTS TO VA OR WHOEVER - DO NOT US SQ FOR REDEMPTIONS.

Less competition for redemptions going forward suits me perfectly - who would even contemplate using SQ given the treatment I received last week.:)

Were you flexible on dates? Normally for any type of redemption you have to have a little leeway

I support this conclusion !

With possibly the exception of redeeming for next day's flight, it seems to be normal treatment for any airline. Although I think Qantas will send you to a hotel miles away downtown.
