According to OMAAT, you can apparently now redeem Aeroplan points to book long-haul J awards on SQ. This is something that is normally only possible using KrisFlyer miles or Velocity points.

I just had a look and I can't actually see any long-haul SQ J awards available through Aeroplan. There are also lots of comments on the One Mile At A Time post that the availability appears to be phantom and that the Aeroplan call centre agents can't book it.

Still, following with interest. It would make Aeroplan even more valuable than it already is if you could book long-haul Singapore Airlines premium cabin tickets!

Following with interest. The article is strenuously asserting it isn't a mistake, but we will see. It would be a game changer if true — 110K AC Miles to LHR on SQ!!!

I’m tempering my enthusiasm after several award searches yesterday yielded nothing. But if true then Air Canadia points just went up 20% in value in my books.

Is SIN-JNB long haul?

or MEL-MUC?

Incredible! Aeroplan now has an embarrassment of options from Australia to Europe. Shame the EK options won't remain at bargain basement levels for long.

Has anyone noticed that Aeroplan is showing availability for SQ that SQ doesn't even show itself - is it phantom availability? Just trying to work out if to buy Aeroplan points as VA/SQ are providing limited options. 1676955617407.png

I can confirm that it's not phantom availability as I just booked 2 x J flights from BNE to SIN via Aeroplan (with Krisflyer showing waitlist).

Edit: And sometimes even showing up for Velocity as well!

It says you can no longer book SQ awards on the aeroplan site and that you have to ring the call centre. That's a backward step since you have to wait hours to get through to aeroplan call centre. In my view aeroplan is useless. With it's call centre wait times and exorbitant change fees. I bought a whole lot of aeroplan miles last year and am now struggling to even use them as you really have to have your dates locked in to avoid the change fees.

Not sure who/what you are referring to - I can still see SQ J awards on the AC web site (trial search - did not book). I agree that the change / cancel fees are very steep. I have never had an issue getting through to the call centre (but have not tried to call for at least a year) - agents are Canadian (not offshore) and have always been very friendly and helpful. I use this number 0011 800 6699 2222 which is toll free from Australia.

Thanks for that number. Maybe it's just randomly that SQ are not available to book online. Agreed SQ does appear sometimes. I was unable to get through a couple of months ago to aeroplan to change a flight that couldn't be changed online. There is not even any messaging option to send them a message.
I'm following with interest the discussion on OMAAT about seats.aero being told to stop using webscrapers on the aeroplan site, and also the whole issue of points brokers and fraud. Expert flyer sounds pretty munted as well.

As an update, still very much alive and kicking, topped up some points with the latest bonus promo, plus the 50k from HSBC for the return leg and got 2 x MEL-SIN-LHR.

I'm trying to get DUB-FRA/ZRH-SIN-MEL coming back to avoid the UK tax, but the booking engine won't tag the LFT/Swiss flight onto the SQ ones (even though there is availability showing the two SQ legs joined together and the EU flight)

Would the call centre be any help?

You can try with the call centre, but it looks like it’s married segments. About the best I can find is DUB-IST-SIN-SYD, TK/SQ/SQ. But awful transit times in IST (13+ hours, with a visa required if on an aussie passport and you want to leave the airport).

You can also try ADL and BNE, again with the TK connection, the call centre should then be able to add a VA sector to SYD. Depends on the dates you’re looking for. ADL has very short connection times in IST, like just under two hours, but SIN-ADL can be hard to find in business.
