SQ SIN-MXP-BCN: MXP procedures?

I had an upcoming booking on SQ388 SIN-BCN, changed to SQ378 SIN-MXP-BCN on the same day. I'm not terribly concerned by the tech stop and am happy to accept the new routing.

What's the deal in MXP? Does one clear immigration there and it's then intraSchengen for the MXP-BCN sector? Or does one stay in international transit and clear immigration in BCN? If immigration in MXP, is customs also there or is that handled in BCN? What lounge options exist (we'll be in J class all the way)?

(Having seen the news since originally asking this at FlyerTalk that they're making this flight fifth-freedom for the first time, that seems to me to make it more likely an intraSchengen scenario.)

If anyone has recently done the SIN-CPH-FCO journey your experience would be useful, because it probably behaves like that.

Thanks.

Doing this in two days and just the up to date info I am looking for.

Though staff again confirmed that it is a lottery if you will have to disembark or not.

The FAs do not know till after the wheels are on the tarmac. It is the local authorities who decide, and not SQ.

Though looks like the Satay should be a lock though. ;)

Good news about the satay.

None were served on my two flights BNE-SIN-CDG.

We also received the satay on the SIN-MEL leg, as well as the MXP-SIN leg.

Also on both flights the Aussie Shiraz's were back in stock. :) On my flight over MEL-SIN-MXP- BCN, plus my July flights to LHR and August return from CXP while on the menu, they had none on board.

SQ usually don't serve satay on flights ex-Australia and also on the overnight supper services (which most of the SIN-Europe flights are).

Just about to depart MXP. We had to remain on the plane. The business cabin was nearly empty until now.

New crew including an Australian pilot.

Satay sticks eagerly awaited.

A 2023 update on SQ's 378 service to BCN via MXP. Sitting on the tarmac in 9V-SMD awaiting departure to BCN.

We commenced our journey from MEL, where as usual the boarding passes were thinner than the cough tickets at an underfunded Macca's in woop woop (still grinds my gears that MEL gets such a sub standard product).

Anyway, good flight over to MXP, it's damn long. Long enough for a 3 hr movie, a sleep, and a 2 hr movie on top.

Landing at MXP, we kept abreast of announcements, and we were told eventually to hurt stay on board. A bunch of Italian officials (a bunch of big, bald, buff Italian dudes more like it) embarked and checked off the passenger manifest against everyone's boarding passes. Thank goodness I reissued the SQ378 boarding pass at SIN to a nice cardstock dark blue banner BP or else the guy would've thought how are you flying J with this piece of cough...

So it appears that more often than not, pax just stay on board for the MXP transit.
Quite a few got off at MXP, but didn't seem like there were any new pax boarding at MXP.

Anyway we'll be off to BCN soon, it was nice to just enjoy the J seat for a little while longer and on the ground too. Milan is a bit overcast at the moment as well so inside is definitely the better place to be.

Hope this helps those following along at home. Safe travels!
