In case anyone is no longer wanting to travel and can't get through to the SQ call centre, they've introduced a pressure relief valve by not charging no-show fees for those who don't cancel before their flight ... as per details on SQ website...

In view of the high contact volumes across our customer service touchpoints, we will be waiving no-show fees for travel between 16 to 31 March 2020.

If you have decided not to travel but are unable to reach our customer service representative before your travel date, please be assured that no-show fees will be waived when you rebook or change your ticket to open-dated.

I think I saw similar on Virgin, don't check in and you get a credit.

I have 2x reward bookings for SYD - SIN - LHR on 1st April & then MUR - SIN - SYD on 30th April (which SQ cancelled a week ago but provided no further info or redund/credit).

I wonder if i should cancel the booking now or just continue to wait/no show and wait for the above policy to kick in?

AA also has the same policy

"If you’re scheduled to travel before March 31, 2020, but can’t get through to Reservations, we will honor all changes and the value of your ticket if you don’t take your flight as planned.

Don’t worry about calling Reservations now. You can call when you're ready to rebook."

How about the latest international travel ban for all Australians as of now? Does it mean, we can cancel our SQ flight (for April2020) with no penalty instead of just getting a year long credit??

Hum - I wonder how this applies to award bookings - need to cancel one and would prefer not to be charged the redeposit fee.
You asked the exact question I wanted to ask just now 🤣🤣 my flights (paid flights and award flights) are for 8 April so still too early to call SQ, although i’d like to sort this out asap.

They’re being very rigid with the rules unfortunately.

I had a CMN award booked for June which is obviously not going to happen. Wanted to swap it for a CPT that had just become available. No flexibility on the change fee and they’re even keeping the extra 2k points!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I wonder if that’s because your travel is for after 30 May? That’s the cutoff date for now as far as i know.

Yep that was it. Only just, but they’re still technically correct. The lady did say I could wait and see if the date is extended, but the award seats would be gone by then.

I was a little annoyed that they charge the 50usd change fee and then also keep the extra points!

After SQ cancelled my flight to JFK a 'couple' of weeks ago, I was allowed to 'move' to SIN - EWR on the same date without any penalty or cost which I did over the phone.

Now, they are saying that there will be a penalty for cancellations they they have had forced upon them. This is most unfair.

Is this a reward or cash fare?

So they are saying that unless you rebook an alternative fare, they are not going to put the points back in your KF account and reimburse taxes until you pay the $75US cancellation fee for flights they've cancelled? That seems ridiculous, but consistent with what VA appears to be doing. I wonder if they'll stick to that if there are NO alternative fares in the short-term? (given that SIN has closed its borders now)

I dropped the HKG sectors on CBR-SIN-HKG in J and HKG-SIN-SYD in F rewards for me and Mrs Happy Dude in early Feb and was not charged anything to so.

I'm supposed to be receiving back the HKG taxes (not holding breath - on that anyway, I am to prevent getting coronavirus), but they are adamant I'm not entitled to the 14k points difference. That stinks. I gather cancellations, forced or otherwise, are a very different beast to changes.
