They've also had business light fares from SYD to some ports like BKK or CGK for around $2600 over the December January period. Not sure if this a good deal though or standard kind of pricing?

As you say @Mattg the cheap fare helps to make up for the cost of multiple covid tests - however it does not compensate for the inconvenience and of course the ongoing restrictions in SIN.

Beware that the required PCR tests will almost cost as much as the plane ticket!
Covid PCR needed prior to leaving Oz, 2nd one on arrival at Sin, and 3rd one prior to returning to Oz. At say $150 a pop, that is $450 just in Covid tests. Double that if going as a couple. And what happens if you test +ve in Sin? Is it free (bet you not) to reschedule your flight? Who pays for 2 -3 weeks hotel stay whilst you wait to be no longer +ve again so you can travel back to OZ? NO THANKS!

I've actually just been looking into this. Singapore now accepts a Rapid Antigen Test before travelling to SIN, which would be $50 at SYD. But still ~$350 in total for COVID-19 tests.

If you tested positive in Singapore, you would be required to isolate for 10 days and obviously rebook your flight if this is affected. There is (limited) travel insurance available that would cover the cost of quarantine, rebooking flights and/or medical treatment (if needed) if you tested positive overseas, e.g. with Southern Cross Travel Insurance or Go Insurance.

Yes, it's still expensive and yes, it's still risky. If I really wanted to go to Singapore, I think I would personally be willing to accept the expense & risk.

Rapid test to SIN is excellent news, this makes transits much more affordable if your destination doesn't require PCR.

Interesting, I just did a quote for an upcoming trip and it really wasn't that expensive.

Cheap $400 RTN fares on Cebu Air (Philippines) - eh plus extras. Not tempted for the same reason as Singapore - same again for PCR tests or the like. I don't know why the Federal govt gave Qantas and others all that free money , when the s**ts did not set up a testing station at the international airport. I suggest APH Canberra had their own no waiting PCR lab onsite.

As an ACT'er I have no reason why I should fork out $150 for a PCR when the risk of spreading it in ACT or NSW is vanishing small - a rapid strip should be good enough. That's what the UK thought too.

Impulse Plane trip bookings are out - until I have a handle on all in costs. Otherwise I will sit N wait it out. I made the comment that there is more money in PCR testing than ticket sales, and the inability for airlines to strike bulk pricing and onsite convenience for their passengers. I guess Sydney Shopping Centre (With Airport attached) and Aussie govt will also miss out on OS revenue fees.

It is pretty incredible that you can fly 8 hours at ~900km/h in a metal tube in the sky to Singapore and back (e.g. with Scoot/Jetstar) for less than the cost of processing 3 nose swabs.

Was keen for a last-minute trip this weekend, alas you need to allow 7 days to get a Vaccinated Travel Pass

Not quite free international movement just yet!

My partner's mother applied last week. It took about 7 seconds for the VTP to be approved, not 7 days.

$559 on the QF website for the same departure dates

Approval is instant, but you can't specify an arrival date in the application form before +7days at the moment, despite the FAQ saying you can apply between 3-60 days.
