Qantas Points Club Discussion

2020 was a completely different time. Qantas operations were largely shutdown due to you know what. And it was unclear how long this would last: would it be months or years? QF needed a way to earn $$ when people weren’t flying them and that’s where Points Club really made sense. And certainly in 2020 offering lounge access even to Flounges wasn’t a huge deal as no one was flying. I remember the good ol days of 2021 when I could rock up to a Qantas lounge and have a good portion of the lounge to myself whilst I waited to board my flight to DRW booked during one of their fire sales
We are about to hit two years since the international border opened. Qantas has had plenty of time to refresh the program.

I just discovered that a maximum of 20,000 points from flying will be applied towards getting the 150,000 needed for PC renewal - what exactly is the point of PC then? I thought that I was going to make renewal without any real hassle but learning that has thrown a spanner in the works!

It's always been like this. PC/PC+ is (predominantly) aimed at folks who don't fly much and earn their points "on the ground".

Yes, it’s always been that way. It’s primarily targeting big spenders not necessarily big flyers.

If you have a QBR account, you can toss over a further 20k.

Bummer!! Would have thought that flying would enable you to put a few more than 20,000 towards renewal. I've never had PC until this year, I guess if I never had it until now then I won't miss it too much...

As @SYD mentioned, lots of flying doesn't earn you PC/PC+, but big spenders can easily earn it. The irony is that much of the value to be derived from PC/PC+ comes from flying/travel.

Especially earning SCs on CR flights. Doubly handy during DSC promos since the price of a CR stays the same! (just have to find them!).

Although points earned from flights cap out at 20k, the credit card points earned buying the flight and bonus points for Qantas spend have no cap.

@RSD - worth checking out this table for specifics around which points count toward PC/PC+ and the various limits that are imposed.
Which reminds me, I just realise that those 250 gratis QBR points per flight some of us get don’t count towards PC at all (not in the ”flying” bucket, not QBR (they’re specifically transfers) and not “other”.

They’re not specifically mentioned in the table.

Possibly a silly question, but anyway...

If I'm currently Points Club Plus, but don't earn enough points to retain it during my current QFF membership year, do I get a status credit rollover at the start of my next membership year?

If you're PC+ now, then you will have had the SC rollover in your current membership year. You would need to requal for PC+ in your current membership year to get the rollover SC next membership year.

Simple way to consider is - if you earnt 350k for PC+, you'll roll over 100 at your anniversary. If your progress bar hasn't hit 350k regardless of your current status - no dice.

This would be the biggest incentive for people to hit 350k each year. Otherwise you can just hit 350k every other year for the other bonuses if you'd like them over regular PC.

How does that work – is it automatic or must we phone them about it, or click a link somewhere?
