SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Like going from T2<->T3 at Changi except without the view (or temp and humidity)
Yes not too onerous just down the stairs down the stairs then up the stairs up the stairs - oh and the co mooing during short ride just does add a bit of Swiss authenticity!

Gold R or Maroon F BP gets you access to TPR - makes no matter what metal you are arr / dep on. Only you can make decision kevro as to whether direct flt on 773 or conn flt on 380 is the way to go.

First gets TPR access not just Suites/a380. I'd take A380/Suites - I found the bed pretty bad on the 777.

Thanks for the info. For some reason, I thought it was Suites only for TPR access, not First class. I've gone with the A380 SYD-SIN and then B773 SIN-LHR for now. Wait-listed on an earlier SIN-LHR flight for now (also B773), and will monitor on-going availability on the A380 flights to LHR (they're not even showing as a waitlist option at the moment). Looks like the anticipated reduction of Suites on the re-configured A380s is having an impact on Saver availability. (Oh, and availability on SIN-CDG was blank anyway for the day I wanted to travel).

We had yodelling in ours... (the cow theme had already been done enough in our hotel - the Leoneck).

I did manage to score a Swatch toy from their DF shop in the terminal for more authenticity.

Im quite certain the new suites config flights between SYD-SIN will be SQ232 and SIN-SYD will be 221.
If you search for these flights on any day for next year, the message 'A few seats left' appears above the price. This indicates to me that there are 6 or fewer seats left in suites, hence new suites confiq. This message does not appear for any of the other A380 flights for this route.

Apparently the R fare class is being reallocated to a premium economy fare, and all suites and first will be F class.

I've officially ruined Mrs tizey. Just booked her MEL-SIN-CPH-ZRH on a *A F Saver Award for next July (LX for CPH-ZRH in J), then pondered how times have changed in the past 12months...

Pre-points hounding: Just get me there in the most direct manner possible with one connection that isnt too long. Please remind me to take the tablets to knock me out. What? You're not coming with me? Theres no way I'm flying anywhere solo, end of story. ARGH!!

Post-points hounding:
Yeah no problems, two connections is fine on the way if it means I can fly first. A 7hr stopover in Singapore? Yeah thats perfect - I'll grab a shower and a bite at the fancy room (TPR), then do a bit of shopping because I wont have you in tow this trip before a few champagnes in the fancy room again before I take off and get some sleep onboard. I wont have to worry about a change of clothes in Copenhagen because I'll wear the Singapore PJs when I sleep and shower before the last flight to Zurich. Cant wait for my pre-take off Krug and that Satay... mm-nmm!

I wish I could be a fly on the wall for this solo trip for her to see her nephew - it will be a far cry from the blubbering, teary, shaking mess of the last international Y flight we took pre-points hounding.

gmoh how did you end up with your checkin at SYD?

I did send off request to SQ to clarify all day checkin - response here:

Dear Mr Elite

Thank you for your email.

We wish to advise that the Singapore Airlines check in counter at Sydney Airport is open from 0555am.

These details are also found via the link below on our website https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/sg/travel-info/check-in/counter-checkin/

MEL silver kris lounge is closed... directed to Air NZ lounge. 'great!' I thought... there'll be hot dog stands and good food.

boy it what a disappointment... uncomfortable leather seats (so hard that they squeak when you move), two salads and one hot dish (bits of chicken... although admittedly they were fat-free and tender), steamed vegetables as a side. Catering now just a fraction above QFi business class lounge levels (because they had a good cheese selection, and the meat in the dish was ok, not just scraps).

Not a a place you want to get to early... I'd recommend late arrival at the airport.

Why closed? Is it being refurbed?

According to SQ website it is due to "airport terminal development work". (is that corporate speak for saying the landlord cut off the power ... or plumbing ... or both?). Only short term from 3rd July, due to reopen tomorrow (12th).

Just checking my Krisflyer account and have noticed that the first leg of my flight home (ZRH-SIN) has disappeared. But the gentleman and MasterC still have theirs. Obviously I need to give them a call but interested to know if this has happened to anyone else before?

Nope have never seen this before but computers do have a mind of their own - a quick call will sort it LadyC.

The question was asked earlier in thread re which flts are subject to issuance of Sleeper Suits and Amenity Kits in R/F. I did answer this kinda in 'housekeeping' update but not fully. This info was previously easily found on SQ site but I am buggered if I can find it there now so a quick Q to SQ has resulted in:

We would like to clarify that our current uplift criteria for First Class sleeper suits and amenity kits are for day flights with a duration of more than 7 hours, and for night flights with a duration of more than 5 hours, departing after 1800 hours and where the scheduled time of arrival is after 0030 hours.

it seems I'm being given a bum steer.

booked J flights for 2x family members via points for 31/12/17 and all good.
Then booked myself & the wife with our then ~9 month old son for same flights in J but on 13/12/17 (on points).
Wanted to put my wife and son on waiting list for the 31/12 (i would still fly on 13/12).

However SQ call centre staff over email said not possible?!?!

Call and ask them to split the current booking, then waitlisting your wife and son on 31/12, provided waitlist is still open on that date, it should be possible.

Hrmm... on first thought that seems like a good idea, but immaterial difference if only flying on SQ metal:
SQ F - 203000 VFF Miles converts to 150,370 KF Miles.. and 1st class East Coast to Europe is 148,000 KF Miles
*A F - 178,875 VFF Miles converts to 132,500 KF Miles.. so much worse if you are able to tack on a small intra Europe J to get the lower points cost.

I do like the idea of keeping miles in VFF... but I dont think thats enough to sway me to book SQ with VFF given SQ Availability and *A options that exist.
