SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I didn’t get an invitation when checking in at SYD last Thursday - even after asking for one - they were out of card stock
Yes that is SYDs standard answer and it is 100% cough - all stations receive their stationary direct from SIN - they receive the stock all right they just too lazy to issue. See last line Post #5877.

Your first F exp on SQ Steady? Would have been a nice souvenir huh?

Yes, first SQ R, yes would have been nice but got one in SIN.

I think AFF set my expectations a bit too high, I have CX J in a few days, my expectations are really low

@Steady I know from our conversations at the Tasmania Wine/Whiskey/Gin tour that you were really looking forward to the SQ first suites experience. From your recent posts it seems below your excitement and expectations. Overall were you happy/satisfied with the flights in that class? Just asking because I head off on my first major overseas jaunt in J with SQ tomorrow morning, with Mrs Tassieoptom on her first ever J trip. She is more excited by the J trip than Paris!

In that vein any advice to make her first trip in J memorable would be appreciated, from anyone. So thankful to the brains trust in AFF, is why I put on the Hobart tour to try to give a bit back.

@Tassieoptom - as soon as you board seek out Cabin Manager - advise them you know SQ has best J product going around and that this is your first experience - ask will they keep a special eye on you so you do not miss out on any part of the experience - he /she will gladly make sure you are more than looked after.

Do not be scared to push the buzzer if you want anything - that is the sole reason they put the damn things in the planes.

Don’t be rushed during meal service - clearly tell crew you want to casually dine and enjoy the whole experience - your wish will be there command.

CH Champs onboard is just excellent - make sure you get more than your share.

Most important thing is ‘engage’ with crew - they are humans - any little way to make their job a tad more less like tedious unappreciated work will be returned in spades.

Hope the both of you have a very enjoyable experience.

Bingo

Each time I have visited TPR I have asked to keep the invite. They have always obliged.
Yes, I can't imagine them ever refusing the request.
I was always intending to check out the first class check-in in Changi and was hoping maybe they had a more special invite there.

Yes we definitely check in at the stand alone F check in.However it has been before 0600 each time.We definitely haven't been given a TPR invite but as I said I don't want one and would probably hand it back so I am not concerned.

Is there a dedicated AFF thread for SQ meals / Book the Cook? I've had a few lately and more coming up - have posted experiences on other fora, but would like to do so on AFF as well. Need to get out of the mindset that AFF is my QF forum only :)

Otherwise this seems the most relevant thread I can find.

Cheers.

Thanks @Cruiser Elite i will certainly do as you advise. Less than an hour till boarding the MEL-SIN leg. We have a 777 300ER and row 12, so not exit row, but in the mini cabin just behind first. Thought it would be a little more special, and had that confirmed here on AFF. Thanks all. Bring on the CH!

Don't forget the extra special request in F. Due to this forum I'd booked a 'honeymoon cake' for our F flight for mel-sin which was a much surprise to the newly married Mrs tizey. Not sure if can do it in J, but I know this fact doesn't come up a lot in thewe forums but the call centre were easily able to accommodate this for us.

CX J is one of my favourite JJ product thus far. I found the seat most comfortable for watching, reading and sleeping. More so than A380 J on SQ as you cannot recline properly due to the flip seat. Food is meh co.pared to sq, but I can live with that as I've usually had a great fill in HKG lounge.

Ive received a birthday cake when in Y before - SIN to JNB. Along with mimosas.

It seems to have been done at SQ’s own initiative as it wasn’t arranged by my travel companion, and flights were booked direct and not through an agent.

The new SQ A380 J seat doesn't flip but reclines all the way back.
