SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Was a zoo last night 21:00-23:00 - oh and they have replaced all the doors in men’s toilets in J section - gone are those ridiculous locks you rotate 13 time to lock / unlock - replaced with simple 1 x 90 deg lock - way too many people locking themselves in and requiring to be let out!

I must admit the washed out grey finish on doors used as replacement certainly don’t quite match existing decor but they do the job.

Thanks CE. I'm happy with the news that there will be TPR in one version or another.

SIN T3 SKL Refurb

OK I think I have a bit of a handle on things - I have not seen plans and most Lounge Mgmt (LM) have indeed seen multiple diff plans - it continues to change weekly.

My second home 3C today FRA-SIN with full cabin 12 pax in R. Interesting that German regs dictate onboard bar cannot be opened pre dep - so FRA Duty Free provide Dom only for pre takeoff drinks and no Krug (and SQ must pay for the Dom) - weird huh? PVG same - PEK prohibit pre takeoff drinks also - even more weirdera.

As I said - 12 pax in R today - even IFM shaking his head at SQ wisdom to downsize to 6 Suite R - he was personally IFM on recent SIN-FRA where mechanical prob saw aircraft sub old 380 for new 380 with full cabin - they had to request volunteers to accept class downgrade or flt date change and he said was not a pretty situation

Jeez penegal reminds me of John Wick - appearance wise very much - but more so the action man side of him!!! 👍

(Yep - currently onboard watching Chapter Three)

There are several variations on this. Some countries ban the service of alcohol pre-departure outright. Some state that duty must be paid on anything offered pre-departure (meaning the airline can offer you anything, just they have to pay duty on it). Some have no restrictions.

In the middle category the bar carts are sealed until take off. SQ chooses to serve Dom only. They could serve anything they wanted, but they'd then have to pay the duty on it. Can make it an expensive exercise.

Free unlimited WiFi for R and F pax - unless you are on one of the older birds where IFE hasn’t been upgraded like 380 FRA-SIN last nt - limit still 100mb - read down

Bear in mind this is the SIN-FRA-JFK / JFK-FRA-SIN route - 100mb for R pax on both sectors gets eaten up very quickly - I would have thought this route may get priority in upgrading IFE system but seems not so.

WiFi speed in TPR at moment so bad OOKLA cannot even connect to external server to do speed test - staff have scurried off to try to find a techo - posting this on iPhone using Vodafone $5/day roaming

Nothing new though as WiFi speed here always disgraceful

Bit of an update on SKL Refurb - former *G L is under Reno to become temp TPR and F - should be open late Oct or early Nov. It will stay same prolly for 12 mths til new TPR / F completed to new site left of current SKL entry

Existing TPR / F will be refurbed to new J and will also encompass old *G L - work will start on this after new temp TPR/F opened in couple mths.

Nothing changed then, even though I also complained last time in TPR.

So current plan has new TPR/F lounges completed around November 2020?

Yes some time around then - staff are very guarded with info supply which is understandable - new features in new TPR like snooze rooms - washroom facilities will be Unisex with toilets inside shower rooms - many more janitor staff to oversee washroom facilities - no separate toilets in TPR or F - all in one Unisex facilities which will be serviced / cleaned after every single use.

Lounge Mgmt visited UA Polaris Lounge in SFO where this practice allegedly occurs and it knocked their sox off. As I mentioned snooze rooms will be incorporated - separate phone rooms as current - far greater dining area - overall footprint about 20% bigger but much better space utilisation - currently 46 seats in TPR and prolly abt 50 in new TPR but much bigger and plusher seats with extra space between tem to offer greater feeling of spaciousness.

F currently seats about 100 and new F will be much the same number but again with far bigger and more plush seats with more space around them. Again dedicated dining area will be enlarged and food offerings greatly enhanced with a greater slant on food preparation on demand by pax. Again washrooms will be all self contained Unisex with the same clean after every use philosophy.

J currently seats 300 but this will increase to about 500 - big increase - washroom design not finalised for J as Senior Mgmt still a bit concerned about the Unisex concept for the J Lounge

Interesting they have confirmed a new TPR. Published articles about this have been vague, at best, and indicating the possibility that it would be some sort of shared F/R lounge, with a dedicated R dining space only.

Crikey I think the good Lord is trying tell me I need more exercise - 25 arr from FRA at F42 this morn now 217 dep C1 - was offered buggy ride but seriously wont be going down that path whilst I can still walk

My recent weight loss had apparently made me invisible.

In TPR and twice needed to hunt down staff for a champers refill ( and only after waiting a 'appropriate' time after the glass was empty).

And currently patiently waiting for my next refill; who will crack first - servers or me?

They smoked my weakness. No service; I cracked and went over for dinner.

I think I can confidently report that SQ monitors AFF. I think my bagging of SQ's J Cabins/ beds must have been noted.

In the dining area, with me and 2 other tables occupied at 7 pm, I had to ask for a drink and, a bit later, for some water.

Very strange. Maybe my expectations were too high? Was here once before with @Cruiser Elite and was greatly feted, but of course he knows then all 😉😊

Wi fi pretty weak ( keeps dropping out) - I think this noted up thread.

ATM I'm rating the QF Flounges way above TPR.

So now I expect to be banned 😱🤬
