SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Does “manage my booking“ allow you select new flights?
sorry I forgot to mention, when I click manage, that msg comes up and Icannot proceed further,
i cant even see the second leg of my flight,
all a bit of a mess to be honest :)

ive recieved no emails or calls about it, what am I supposed to do as ive got no idea whats going on

the only change I had was back in December where they have moved the flight fwd 30mins

Are you able to go to the SQ website and create a booking for either of the two flights in your itinerary? In theory, they should come back N/A and other flights that day should show. You can then request to move to the flights that suit you.

good point, had a look, the original flight no longer exists, and has been put fwd 30mins

I just checked and called singair again, looks like I just got a dumb rep yesterday,

TLDR, in dec last year they sent me an email saying your flight has been put fwd 30 mins,

when I called the new rep today, they said the original flight had been put fwd 30mins just yesterday and they hadnt managed to give me a call yet,

seems a bit of a coincidence, but all back to normal and no damage done except 30 mins arguing with the rep yesterday
,
flights confirmed!!
only thing is seat selection and passport details gone, First world problems!

appreciate your help, so much hassle/grief could have been avoided had I received a competent agent in the first place

on another note , this is such an awesome thread

I have a melb sing flight confirmed, and then waitlist cleared after 5 months (possibly due to corona virus) for July travel

but Ive declined them because my current flight is 11pm departure on J on 777
whilst the wait list was 9am J and F on 777

a 777 on F isnt worth the extra for me as its not a suite,
9am doesnt work for me as it means a 3am wakeup (i hate mornings)
overnight flight means less meals/caviar, and most of the flight sleeping
I also know which is the best seat to choose!

all stuff ive learnt on this thread!! :D :D :D

is the only way to confirm a waitlist to call up?
I logged in and couldn't seem to confirm it in any way....
Been on hold for 40 mins already!

Looking for advice for the simpletons as Ive not done a reward flight cancellation before. Is it as simple as clicking cancel flight on their website and the points are returned to the KF account?

thanks,

When I have cancelled on line, I've always needed to also call up to confirm the cancellation and so SQ can charge the cancellation fee. This is before COVID-19 though.

That should be the case, however a call may be required. Also, be mindful that the time taken for points to return to the account could be a very long time (on the order of a month in some cases!).
Furthermore, these points were due to expire when? Just something to keep in mind.

Personally I have a reward redemption for June/July this year and am waiting for SQ to send a cancellation notice so that cancellation can be effected without a fee.

I have flights in July (yes ages away)
I assume you can cancel redemption bookings until the last day?

Nice, what route?
Yes you can cancel all the way up to I'd say ~3 hours before departure? But to be safe I'd say until the day before the flight(s).
I've got an outbound redemption at the end of June on one PNR, and the inbound redemption mid-July on another PNR, so have to do 2 cancellations.

I have melb to sing
sing to HKG
narita/haneda to Melb

I guess this is one of the benefits of redemption over cash flights, you can cancel until last minute with a set cancellation fee :D

These are VA points transferred to KF in June & Sept last year and I think KF is 36mth expiry - hope to rebook something in a couple of months for next year.

cheer for the reponses, much appreciated

Ah okay you're safe then - yes it's 3 years from the end of the month in which the points landed in your KF account.
You can definitely wait until SQ releases the cancellations for the month of your travels so that you can perform a cancellation and/or rebooking for free (which is how I'll be playing my cards).

Nice, I'm guessing MEL-SIN-HKG is on one redemption and NRT/HND-MEL is on another?
I've got SYD-SIN-(FRA)-JFK in Suites and LAX-SIN-SYD in Business booked (on separate tickets), so will have to wait until they release their cancellations for my dates and then rebook to another date (availability is of course a massive concern)!

yeah, you are all over it!!!
Nice, suites!
what do you mean they release cancellation? are you waiting for them to cancel yours for you to avoid the fees, $75 USD if i recall

my SYD to SIN on a Sunday morning in late May is still not affected, however with a ~1hr transit i had a SIN to HKG (so I was ready to go to meetings first thing Monday morning), which is now moved ~20hrs forward.
No longer suits me as 3/4 of Monday is gone by the time I reach HKG...

Will have to postpone the entire trip :(

I also had a HKG to TPE and then a TPE back to SYD via SIN later in the week, 3 countries in a week with a tight schedule of meetings.

do the new "updated" policies override ticket terms and conditions?

also got relatives who bought cash tickets for travel in april, the latest update says you can book for up to a March 2021, but their ticket validity expires in july 2019

what do you mean they release cancellation? are you waiting for them to cancel
Yes, that's it. They have a document up stating all the flights and dates that are cancelled, so of course those pax affected will be accommodated via a rebooking/cancellation without penalty. Given DT's recent banning of arrivals from the EU into the US, SQ26 is not a viable option and it's been cancelled until the end of April (I think?). The way it's going, the ban may go all the way till June which is when my flight will be cancelled which is when I'll make the required changes. Let's see how it pans out, soon SQ will release updated cancellation dates/flights.

Yeah fair enough, these cancellations and t/cs changes are happening everyday,

It wouldnt surprise me if in 2 months time everything is back to normal or things are twice as bad as today

We just got music for more than an hour with SQ so we are coming home today on Qatar seeing London is not going too well.

Definitely, it could go either way in a couple of month's time, and nobody knows which way until it's closer to the date...
