SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

FWIW LH J Lounge in FRA is cough - AC Maple Leaf Lounge newer and less coughpy but SQ J pax can use either - but both are lacking in quality of F & B offerings - they make SIN SQ J Lounge look like heaven

Correction: Couple months back my FRA-SIN-MEL flt was in J and I was told could use Senator Lounge - I thought it was for F pax but anyway it was still cough
Agree!

Unless SQ has a special arrangement with LH, the normal lounge for business class is the LH J lounge, which are a notch or two below the Senator (star gold) lounges. (I’ve never understood how economy with status gets a better lounge than paid business… but EVA also does it, as well as a couple of OW carriers).

LH do one thing good, First class. Actually not good, bloody fantastic! Apart from that their hard and soft products, including lounges are below average.

IMO AC lounge has better decor but gets too busy since many *A airlines direct their pax there (probably cost them less). LH lounges have two positives, the showers and the pretzels 🥨

Edit: forgot another positive about LH lounges, luggage lockers. I wish every lounge should have those, makes it so much more relaxing when no need to worry about luggage which in the lounge, particularly when traveling solo.

Looking for some advice to help my in laws out on ticket validity, that I've never been 100% on.

I want to book my brother in law a return ticket - MEL-SIN-ZRH, ZRH-SIN-MEL on SQ Y. He's got a relatively fixed date to return to ZRH, but isnt 100% sure on his return date (approx early April 2023), but definitely will be returning to MEL.

I assume I'm best to book this as two seperate awards unless told otherwise.

If we need to change his return date, and provided we dont change routing/airline - the ticket remains valid for 12months from booking date is my understanding, and provided the same availability is available on the new date inside that 12month period - do we only pay a change fee?

Eg. Book for ZRH-SIN-MEL on SQ Y on say, April 10 - my understanding is that if we change it to April 17 (or any other day), there is no ticket re-issue and/or taxes payable and/or points payable?

Given there is only 1 flight from ZRH-SIN on SQ daily, its no issue - but does he need to be on the same flight number on the changed date for SIN-MEL?

I know this has been asked before, but want to make sure before booking for him and the 5 July enhancement to points table.
I would do the booking before Tuesday as the number of points will go up on that day.
My belief is that if exactly the same itinerary no fees required for a date change.

Well we just arrived in Munich yesterday on SQ in J from SYD - first International fight in 2+ years - SQ still great from a service point of view even on full flights. But while I'm sure this is well documented the "covid" cutbacks were somewhat annoying - non pre-departure drinks, no slippers (were the ones we noticed) but the food was terrible - I mean some aspects wee shocking - I returned by breakfast after one bite.

now on to the KF lounge - we had a 3 hour layover and the one and only lounge was totally full - I mean standing room only - the food offered looked so unappealing we did not even bother after we finally found 2 seats as a bar-like table shared with 2 other people. Changi looked very tired (but busy) - no wonder Singapore lost it's top airport standing.

This in SIN - one and only lounge?

There are now 4 SQ lounges open in T3.

*G, Business, First & TPR.

Which lounge were you using and at what time?

there seemed to be only one KF lounge in T3 (10pm-midnight) - which is where we were - and, yes, there is a *G lounge - First and TPR are great, I'm sure, but we were in J and not F and not PPS. While our onwards gate was in T1 there is no longer a KF lounge there (presumably closed during Covid).

That is a busy time with many flights - all T3 lounges should have been open.

Did the entry look like this?

Flew through SIN on the way to Germany last week. Outbound I visited the T3 SQ J lounge about midday and it was very quiet, coming home arrived about 0700 and it was so busy, seating at a premium. I walked down to the gold lounge and it was just as bad.

Did you leave from a C Gate in T1, just past the end of the T3 B Gates? In my 22 years flying with SQ, I cannot remember there ever being a KF Lounge in T1. The original lounges were in T2 until Covid but never in T1. If there was one, I do not remember ever visiting it.

Hi all

I'm flying to Europe in August with SQ. I booked in May and added my Krisflyer frequent flyer number to the booking. I've decided I should instead accumulate points to Velocity. Each time over recent days when I have tried to update the booking to replace my KF number with my Velocity number, I get an error that says: "The frequent flyer number is invalid. Please provide a valid frequent flyer number or present your frequent flyer card at the airport check-in." The number I've been entering is definitely correct.

Any ideas whether this glitch can be overcome before check-in and without a phone call?

Thanks

Geoff.

Makes sense since most connections to are done either early in the morning or later in the evening.

SQ needs and already started to adjust its lounge entry rules. Too many pax are allowed into the J lounge and if left unchecked crowding will get worse once China and Japan will open their borders.

Question. I have already booked a Saver Award seat to SYD-LHR next year with no stopover. If I book LHR-MEL once my travel date opens, can I count this as a return to Zone 9 allowing me to get a Stopover before August 1 - I know I will need to ring them - or will they still count this as two one-way bookings with no stopover allowed?

Back on SIN lounges - @mel-world - you are correct there was a lounge in T2 not T1 - for some reason SQ seem to put my connecting flight(s) are the furthest C gate. But clearly they need another lounge.

I'm trying to update and I get a "Enter a valid OTP". But it didn't send or ask me to enter one!!

Yeah looks like now guests need to be on the same flight as you to be let in

Yeah, I guess they need to re-open the lounge at T2

Nomenclature is potentially an issue here.. the ‘KF’ lounge traditionally refers to the KrisFlyer (KF) Gold lounge, which is the star gold economy lounge. ‘SK’ refers to the SilverKris business lounge. Then the First and Private Rooms.

There is only one KF lounge, and one SK lounge, currently in T3. The T2 SK lounge is closed until further notice.
