SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes

You might be surprised at the rates that can be negotiated - airlines requiring the room night volume that SQ does would certainly be paying less than $200 per room night in Brisbane.

SQ has an average ~3.5 x A359 arrivals per day. I'm not sure of the exact number of pilots & crew SQ rostered on an A359 departure, or their mandated rest between shifts but for the sake of the example, let's assume 10 FAs, 2 pilots, and a minimum turn of 36 hours for FAs and 48 hours for pilots.

That's 19160 room nights per year / 52 rooms per night for the FAs, and 5110 room nights per year / 14 rooms per night for the pilots. Pullman Brisbane only has 210 rooms, so accommodating the SQ FAs alone would guarantee 25% occupancy.

Then consider these contracts are often negotiated for 3-5 years, and you'll appreciate the airlines have an awful lot of leverage for negotiations. A contract to accommodate both FAs and pilots may come close to covering Pullman's fixed operating costs, and significantly derisks their operation....
Hi Sudoer, thanks for replying to my post. At one point in time Singapore Airlines had 4 daily flights to Brisbane, being the largest international carrier. Currently, the airline operates 4 flights on some days during the week , i beleive is 4 days,( including Saturdays and Sundays), which took place three months ahead of original schedule. all aircraft for Brisbane use the Airbus A350 900 MH Aircraft. I did get to know the coach./bus crew driver and currently h/she tells me that at least 12-15 crew are needed for each flight , and Australia stations including Brisbane have only 24 hours layover. ( surprisingly for both cabin crew and pilots) e.g One flight which I have taken several times to Brisbane from Singapore ( and in my opinion is the best flight) arrives into Brisbane around 7 am in the morning, the crew will leave the next day on the flight that departs just before 9 am. However, at this stage the 4th flight is only operating four days a week which means the layover could be longer for the crew operating this flight to and from Brisbane, based on the operating patterns . and yes Pullman Brisbane does get high occupancy rates. Other airlines also use the hotel like CX ( cathay pacific) AND EVA AIR . As of late, I do believe singapore airlines crew use another hotel for the layover (which I found out speaking to cabin crew on my recent flight to Singapore-on-Singapore Airlines ( a senior ranking female crew) and it had something to do with covid - this hotel is also in the city. i do feel though that pullman is a great hotel owned by the accor brand. Look forward to hearing your thoughts

I am staying at the Pullman Brisbane with the wife for a significant celebration and what a beautiful sight to see Singapore Airlines crew checking in/checking out.The crew checking in still look as fresh as the crew checking out. Have never really thought about the logistics of flight crews staying over.

Was talking with the concierge this morning and he said that mostly the flight crews stay just under 24 hours but sometimes it may be 2 nights. There is SQ flight that arrives around 7.00am and that crew will fly out the next morning on the flight that leaves at 9.10am. With Brisbane now having 4 SQ flights some days there must be some pressure on the hotel to get the rooms ready. The concierge also said that Cathay Pacific and Eva stay at the Pullman.

I could see pilots sitting and talking with the cabin crew. Emirates used to stay at the Hilton in Brisbane (they now stay at Next) and when in the lobby bar you could see that there was no mixing between the pilots and the cabin crew.
Great Post have also seen Singapore Airlines Crew AT Pullman Brisbane before, as the bus I take stops right across the road from the hotel at King George Square station., Have myself had the privilege of travelling on Singapore Airlines several times, from Brisbane which is where I now live as an Australian citizen, some of the information posted might have changed, i am glad to say that Brisbane now has once again 4 flights 4 days per week, including Saturdays and Sundays, and the layover hotel might have changed.

Living IN Brisbane and travel singapore airlines before , am really glad to say that singapore airlines is now back to four flights some days of the week, I have seen them at Pullman Brisbane and am not sure if they are still there or not, however the bus I take into the city stops right across, Pullman is actaully a great hotel., I travelled singapore airlines several times from Brisbane to Singapore including in July 2024 , their 40th anniversary year of flying into Brisbane as well as their 30th anniversart flying into Brisbane.
Thanks RB for liking my post

I’m flying F on SQ202 in December. I know there’s the unwritten benefit of lounge access on arrival in SIN. Any issues for me to spend 3hrs there while waiting for the other NoNames to arrive on SQ212? Thinking also in terms of when I go through immigration and they see my flight arrived hours earlier.

I flew to Singapore in April and stayed maybe 2 hours in The Private Room after I arrived. No issues whatsoever going through immigration. I had carry-on only, though. I think I would have been a little uncomfortable if I'd had checked luggage, but apparently it gets taken to the unclaimed luggage office and you can collect it after you emerge.

Last month we spent an hour or so in TPR on arrival. Luggage was just sitting beside carousel. No issues with immigration.

I may be wrong, but I believe it is the same flight.

Only he flight number has changed.

We are also on that flight.

Hi Foggy, i could be wrong as i live in Brisbane and do know that Brisbane has recently had a fourth A350 Medium Haul flight operating four days a week. However, I do believe that SQ262/202 is going to be the fifth flight coming out of Sydney beginning from late october and at present is not being operated yet, you could check on the SQ website for more information.

Anyone know which is the better plane? SQ202 or SQ262? My flight in Dec from syd to sin has just changed
Hi Foggy, based on the information that I have read, I do believe this will be the fifth flight ( new addition for sydney operated either using the A350/ Boeing 777 ( not entirely sure about this).

Exactly the same. Just the flight number has changed. I’m also on this in December and received the notification this afternoon.
Aeroroutes will also have this information under singapore airlines NW24 operations ( northern winter).

Just remebered, while watching a youtube video of a suites review.

On my recent trip in suites, i was travelling solo and in the double suite seat, i csnt remember exaclty when but well before we took off the CA asked if if i would swap with someone in the solo seat so they couple could sit together, i politely declined as i knew it was smaller

Maybe halfway during the flight, i saw the other side of my suite empty.
So i asked if they could lower the partition, and it was an instant no

Was a bit disappointed🤔
