SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes they supply PJs or as SQ prefer to call them a 'Sleeper Suit'. IMHO too hot to sleep in - BYO sleeping attire and take unopened PJs home with you as another souvenir.

Oh and I forgot to mention the new Female Amenity Kits they are dishing out are simply gorgeous.

Tent... ;)

Just saw your signature. A friend was there 5-6 days before the earthquake last year. She ended up sick and was choppered out. A recommendation for TI if ever there was one.

How early can one arrive at the TPR to try a bit of everything? My flight is at 8:40pm.

Recommend you arrive the day prior, then :)

Nah, kidding. Very much so.

Look, TPR is good but it's really just about the food (oh, alright, the food and the drink) and that much-vaunted 'exclusivity' of the lounge itself – once you step out of the dining room there's not much more to say for it.

It's not like there's a spa a la TG BKK or even QF SYD/MEL, nor cabana-style rooms with baths a la CX The Wing or LH's first class terminal, or a VIP room where models cavort in chocolate fountains while the whiskey bar serves up prized drams a la Rex at SYD T2.

Nope, TPR is by most counts other than food and fizz pretty, well, ordinary, albeit in an exclusive kind of ordinaryness. A coupla hours should do you fine, unless you want to arrive early for one meal, then take a break, go for a wander around the airport and marvel at the retro carpet, then come back for Round Two.

My first F experience (ever!) will be end of this year, and I will be going through the TPR as part of it. Sounds like they are lacking an X-factor (eg spa or cabanas) compared to the other 'home' first class lounges.. But am super excited nonetheless!

As early as you can check in - Theoretically ~24 to 48 hours before if doing an "air-side transit".

FWIW, the most I have done is about 20 hours (got in the day before, had a feed, then went through Immi and downtown, back for breakfast the next day).

Amusingly there was "no problem" with me being there, but they staff were super polite at trying to explain to me that my flight wasn't until tomorrow. I was welcome to stay, but they offered to book a hotel and car transfer for me.

with the proviso now that you cannot 'misuse' your boarding pass:

entering the sterile area for the sole purpose of a lounge visit might run contrary to the rules.

For the record, what I have suggested above is totally legal. There is no legal requirement to entry Singapore while in transit.

Also, there is no reason you can't take advantage of all day check in, at the dedicated First Class check in area.

I am not sure how you can avoid entering the "sterile area" when you fly in from another destination...

AFAIK This is a local phenomena where Singaporeans have tried to go airside to meet people, and/or buy duty free, with no intention of actually travelling.

I suspect if you went to the airport, used the TPR, then cancelled your ticket and went home this may also raise suspicion under this same law. Of course a legitimately cancelled business trip would be fine, so it would be difficult to prove.

Agree.

But there are people who have mooted arriving, entering Singapore, then going back into the sterile area again to have breakfast/lunch/dinner in a lounge, before going back to their hotel in Singapore.

Those scenarios might come under the 'misuse' rules.

MEL not quite following here - SQ R/F pax have arrival access into TPR to enjoy whatever - then clear immig and off to their hotels - I am usually wrong but I have not seen many of any planning to arr, enter SIN, re-enter sterile area then to TPR.

But agree wholeheartedly with you about 'misuse' rule - nobody should push the envelope too far.

It's not an uncommon question by people wanting to maximise lounge time - arrive, head into Singapore for the afternoon, drop by the airport for dinner before going to a hotel, then continuing their journey the next day.

FWIW, the two taxi fares + wasted time means you would need to eat and drink a lot for that to be remotely worthwhile.

I guess it could be quite 'cheap' - 2 pax - taxi is what, $25-27? if you stay close by the airport that's even cheaper/little wasted time. And you'd get your max time in TPR - a few glasses of champagne and you'd get your money back.

WHAT A HORRIBLE AIRLINE ;(((((

here I am stuck in the TPR after a suites flight from Sydney and they have run out of the 2008 Pichon le Lande !!!!!!!!!!

Only a coughpy Aussie Shiraz and an Italian Babera !

What will I have with my lobster??????

That's it I'm done with this substandard service
