How does one update your redemption nomiees passport info?
Most of mine have expired passport info in my profile and everytime I try to update and submit the details, it doesn't update and shows this error. I've always had this issue for the past few years.
"Our system has identified that passport has expired for one or more nominees. Please fill in the valid passport details for all nominees."
 
You need to update all of them with currently valid dates before you click the submit button.
Champion. Don't know why I didn't read that error properly.

Took a couple tries of updating all at once before submitting for it to actually work, but got there in the end.

Can't just do one, it makes you go through all nominees
For some reason it was only allowing me to expand 1 nominee at a time to update and this way wouldn't work. Then randomly it expanded all nominees after a few tries and then it worked.
 
Re MEL-PVG/PEK schedules - advice from SQ:

I hope that you are well and enjoying the summer?
I am happy to advise the following:

  1. Schedules are generally available in our system 51 weeks prior, not the full year as I indicated earlier.
  2. Currently we are flying SIN- PVG three times weekly, on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. This is likely to increase when the Northern Summer schedules commence at the end of March.
  3. Schedules for Beijing are yet to be finalised.

Welcome to the topsy-turvy post-COVID world. Winter in Shanghai in a massive wave of you-know-what doesn't appeal to me. If possible wait three months.
 
SIN-MEL on 7 Feb just as bad, if not worse than PVG-SIN. SIN-MEL is 0 in F, PE, Y and only Z available in business class on any of the 4 flights that day, whereas at least PVG-SIN has full fares available in all 4 classes on the one flight that day.

I've got a flight tomorrow from BLR-SIN-MEL.

The BLR-SIN flight is in J, an award redemption (booked using VA miles). The itinerary was SIN-BLR-SIN (rountrip J award redemption via VA) and SIN-BLR was flown last year.
The SIN-MEL flight is in Y, a cash ticket. The itinerary was MEL-SIN-MEL (roundtrip cash ticket purchase) and MEL-SIN was flown last year (connecting onto SIN-BLR after 3 days in SIN).

These are on two separate tickets (hence separate PNRs). I've already checked in for both segments individually, successfully.

My question revolves around the baggage allowance. Assuming the agents at BLR process everything properly, I should be able to get both boarding passes, and the baggage should be interlined all the way to MEL. The J ticket gives a 40kg allowance whereas the Y ticket only has 30kg. Given that the initial checkin is for the J flight, and that the baggage is interlined, I would assume that a 40kg allowance would be applicable for the journey - but does this have any issues with the 2nd flight in Y having only 30kg?

Please help with this if you can, I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks!
I hope that makes sense - if further details are needed I'll ask my friend for clarification but I think this should be enough to see what's going on.

Nerdy whilst I have never experienced anything like this but YES no problem to interline just show both itineraries at checkin and I would be astounded if there was an issue with weight provided they are not significantly over limit for first flight - does your friend know weight of luggage in advance?

The interlining shouldn't be an issue of course (actually who knows, my experience with the contracted check-in agents at BLR in past trips leaves a lot to be desired), and in terms of the weight, I believe it's roughly on the order of 35-36 kilos spread over two bags.
I'll be able to get a more accurate figure before they head off for the airport later tonight (flight is 23:10 IST which is 04:40 AEDT the next day), however I'm certain it's over the Y allowance (but within the J allowance).
Without direct contact to anyone at SQ I've been left stumped and want to ensure my friend has a trouble free trip. They rely on me and my little knowledge of these things to help out but this time I came up empty.

We require a one way sector SYD SIN mid Dec to fit in with our other redemption bookings. No remptions available except in Y so would rather pay $ than waste points. Currently one way in Y is just under $1k, whereas a return ticket is $1300. I’ve read the T&C’s with regards to booking changes but just want to be sure, if I were to book a ticket SYD SIN Dec 2023 and SIN SYD Jan 2024 and provided I changed the booking before ticket issue date eg 23 Jan 2024, could I change the return booking date to Nov 2024?

More detail below. Keep reading for absolute mayhem in living form (exaggeration but I believe things did get astray at times).

Long answer? Buckle up it's a crazy ride ahead. I just caught up with my friend who asked this question, they've finally landed in Melbourne, all bags intact. What I'm about to write is a rough transcription of the events that occurred.

So, friend goes to the J check-in counter for SQ at BLR, hands over a passport and two e-tickets/itineraries.
One is a (VA stock, e-ticket number beginning with 795) ticket that has two segments: SIN-BLR and BLR-SIN, both in SQ J. SIN-BLR was 'consumed' in Dec 2022 so only BLR-SIN is relevant at this point.
The other is a (SQ stock, e-ticket number beginning with 618) ticket that has two segments: MEL-SIN and SIN-MEL. MEL-SIN was 'consumed' in Dec 2022 (which interlined onto SIN-BLR) so only SIN-MEL is relevant at this point.
Agent at the desk goes to town on the keyboard, saying "Madam you're going to Singapore today, do you have a visa?", to which my friend replies "I'm not going to Singapore, I'm going to Melbourne". Agent says "But madam system shows Singapore as destination". "Also if you're going to Melbourne show proof of entry allowance to the Australian country ".
Eventually after explaining the mechanics of the ticket purchase and after a few exasperated sighs from the agent, she eventually got two boarding passes printed, showing a journey all the way to MEL.

All good so far right?
Wrong. Damn wrong.

"Madam do you have any bags to check-in?" "Yes, I've got 2 here". They are placed on the belt. Turns out the big bag is 27kg and the small one is 8kg. Not sure if my maths is correct but that's a total of 35kg.
Agent chimes in "You can collect these in Singapore as you're going there as your destination". Apparently completely forgot about the entire issue from before.
"Umm, my journey is to Melbourne. Also, I know that Business class has 40kg and Economy is 30kg. Given that the first flight is Business and the second is Economy, am I allowed a 40 or 30 kilo allowance? Lastly, can these be checked all the way to Melbourne?". The response? "Yes madam I can check these all the way to Melbourne that's no problem". "But what about the allowance?" "Madam it's 40 kilos till Singapore then 30 for Melbourne". "But you just said it's going all the way to Melbourne". "Yes madam". "So is it 40 or 30 that's allowed by the rules?". "Yes madam". It eventually just got tagged and sent away for loading into the aircraft's belly.

At this point I figure my friend just gave up and got the boarding passes and got the hell out of there. I couldn't believe the level of incompetence after hearing this exchange take place. That too in the J line. Forget about any of this if checking-in in the regular Y lines. In the end I'm just as confused as when I was initially asked this question, and damn embarassed that they don't have an answer still. I really expected more.

Not only that, the seat assignments were stuffed up and bulkhead seat reservations were lost.

On another note, how do I get to learn more about these? I feel I know a lot hence the regular barrage of requests for help from family/friends, but I believe my knowledge is only the tip of the tip of the iceberg in terms of all there is to know about these regulations dealing with a GDS, check-in systems, etc etc.

From your explanation you're booking a return ticket for cash at some time, for a journey in Dec 2023 and Jan 2024.
I'm assuming you're booking these now? Aka a Jan 2023 or Feb 2023 purchase? Your purchase date is the "ticket issue date".
Tickets have a validity of 12 months so any changes to the itinerary are only valid if the entire itinerary is within this validity.

If you want a return date in November 2024, your ticket issuance should be in November or December this year (2023).

Example: You book, on 28 Feb this year, the entire return journey with dates Dec 2023 - Jan 2024. The ticket validity ends on 28 Feb (or 27) 2024. That is, any changes require the flights to be completed (final segment touching down at the origin port) by the 27/28th February 2024.
 
Thanks MathNerd for your reply - I thought I may have been focussing on the wrong date eg first flight rather than ticket issue date.
One way it is. Cancellation is $120 for the one way ticket so I’ll revisit the return ticket option in November, still might work out cheaper to cancel and rebook even at that late stage.
