Hello-

I am flying on SQ MEL-SIN, arriving at 21:30

I have a 3K (JetStar Asia) flight departing SIN at 22:50 (Sorry! 21:50 WAS a typo. I'm crazy but not that crazy :) )

Obviously this is tight, a couple questions:

- I don't have to check luggage for SQ, but my carry-on doesn't meet 3K requirements
- Can SQ check my baggage at MEL through to BKK on the 3K flight? This would make it easy
- If not, I would carry on SQ and attempt to go straight to the gate for the 3K flight. This is allowed by Jetstar, so seems ok except my carry on is too heavy
- Can 3K check bags at the gate or at a transfer desk in SIN?

Any advice is appreciated. I did buy a fare with 3K that allows a checked bag, so I'm not trying to be cheap, just efficient. :)

I don't like your chances of making that flight. I'm guessing this is the last SIN-BKK flight of the night? Pretty sure SQ can't check your luggage from MEL to BKK as I wouldn't think they'd have an interline agreement with 3K.

Cannot.

Irrespective of interline agreements (which I don't think they have either) , SQ won't through check a bag where the connection is shorter than minimum connection time ( in this instance way shorter).

Your only hope is that SQ228 gets in early (it does sometimes - even 30mins early) and 3K are lenient with carry on. Whilst you're at it might as well go an buy a few lottery tickets :-)

Is that a typo? 21:30 Arrival to a 21:50 flight is stupid even if it is SIN.

Well below MCT even for SQ-SQ, no chance for SQ-3K.

Would seem you arrive at Terminal 3 and depart from Terminal 1. Would have thought a 20 minutes gate to gate is impossible. Suspect also that Jetstar will have closed their flight 20 minutes before departure.

You will miss it completely. Even if the connecting flight was on SQ and departing from the gate next door to where you land. If departure is scheduled for 2150 you'd be boarding at 2050. By the time the SQ228 arrives at 2130, taxis to the gate and the aerobridges are connected, you won't be first off the plane unless you're flying in F. Which is most probably not the case if you're connecting to 3K.

Even if SQ228 arrives an hour early at 2030, you're talking about having to clear immigration at T2 or T3 and Skytrain T2 or T3 to T1. Budget at least half an hour for that, and more if the plane is directed to park at Gate A21 in T3. Also, if the T3 to T1 Skytrain (or if SQ228 lands at T2 that day, the T2 to T1 Skytrain) is at the opposite end of the terminal to where SQ228 is parked? At least 45 minutes. 3K check in and bag drop closes 45 min before departure, which is 2105. You'll never make it.

Couple of fairly broad assumptions there :)

The 'boarding time' at SIN is grossly over stated (not by you, but by the airport)... I know the monitors scream 'boarding' and 'final call' as much as 30-40 minutes prior to departure - but in reality that doesn't reflect actual boarding time. Sometimes you'd be lucky for the incoming LCC to even be at the gate when 'boarding' starts.

This being AFF it is equally likely the in-bound could be on SQ F connecting to 3K :)

I'm just trying to make the connecting situation look as absurd as possible. I'd only cram into 3K to haul my butt from SIN-MNL to take advantage of the no fuel surcharges on ex-MNL KF award tickets :D

Sorry for all the posts based on my incorrect information, but there was indeed a typo.

The SQ flight does arrive at 21:30, the 3K departs at 22:50.

So it is not as bad as it looks. I'm headed to BKK and this was the only option to make it that night. So if I miss it, I'm in the same situation as staying overnight in SIN anyway (just out $150). I figure I can grab a last minute LCC flight to BKK if necessary the next morning.

Jetstar says I can go straight to the gate. So, it's just a question of if they will have a problem with my carry-on. If they do hopefully I can just gate check it. It's a shame SQ won't check it through, but I figured it was unlikely.

The terminal change is my only remaining question. Is it true I cannot get to Terminal 1 without going through immigration? That might be a sticking point... looking at the map I thought I could stay airside.

with that timing you should be fine (assuming your inbound isn't late/too late). jetstar will be used to connecting pax with different cabin bag sizes... I took a full sized international rollaboard on and they didn't even bat an eyelid.

2250 makes it much easier. There's an airside Skytrain T3-T1.

Yes better, no need to to clear immigration. Also SQ 228 is often early too (11 of last 12 times). If arriving in T3, can catch skytrain, although if coming into gate B7-B10, quicker to get off the plane and turn left to go straight to T1 than turning right and following the rest of the plane into the main area of T3.

Your other option is to check luggage on SQ through to SIN and then go to transfer D and ask them to transfer luggage to 3K flight to BKK.

Although any delays on inbound SQ flight and your checked luggage may not make it to your connecting flight in time.

This turned out quite easy to make, but it was not straightforward.

I could not check in online, and didn't have time to call Jetstar. I figured the transfer desk could check me in. It turns out they cannot. You either check in online, or outside. I don't really know what rhe transfer desk exists for! So I had to go through immigration and check in outside the airport.

Luckily I breezed through both directions. Made the flight with plenty of time to spare.

I was carry on only but I think I could have checked a bag and still come out ok.

Just a note for anyone trying a really tight 3K connection, make sure you can check in online, or the 'direct to gate' option won't work.

3K is a LCC airline so they dont staff the transfer desks.
