Getting a good J product in a 737 will be interesting, I would imagine the 777s on the transcon sectors will make life interesting, with DJ having PE and J options, cue QF introducing 747's with PE back in the route.

A business class section on a 737 is the wrong direction for Virgin Blue to head.
I do however, disagree with AirNZ getting rid of their business classes on the A320. I see value in this as the short haul business class could link into a longer international trip (LAX/SIN/etc).
I'm worried that a better J product than Qantas will just take up too much room.
Focus instead should be on the Air NZ hook up, strengthening VAustralia, improving their economy class to exceed that on the new qantas A330 which was very impressive, looking at alliance options and improving velocity.
