Hi All,

I will be travelling to the U.S with Air New Zealand at the end of the year with husband and 10 year old. I have read that the Velocity Gold entrance entitlement into the LAX Star Alliance lounge is for 1 guest only and days passes are unavailable. Are there any options available so that I can get both my husband and son into the lounge?

Thanks in advance.

You'd have to look at access rules, but often kids don't count as a guest...

Unfortunately it looks like you're out of luck :(

According to the access rules, she counts as a guest: Lounge Access Policy - Star Alliance - Star Alliance

GUESTSFirst Class, Star Alliance Gold and Eligible Paid Lounge Membership customers are each entitled to a maximum of one guest. The guest must enter the designated lounge with the Eligible Customer and present a boarding pass for any Star Alliance member airline operated flight departing from the local airport. For contract lounges, the guest must be flying on the same airline as the Eligible Customer. Any person over the age of two is considered a guest. Infants under the age of two travelling with an Eligible Customer may accompany them to the lounge in addition to a maximum of one guest.

(my bolding above).

Also here's the Velocity allowance page: https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/experience/at-the-airport/international-lounge-access/

Scroll down to the Child Access Guide and it clearly states:

Star Alliance lounge in Los Angeles
1 child (counted as your Velocity membership entitlement of 1 guest)

So that states on both websites (the provider, and your FF membership), that you are only entitled to one guest and that your child would count as that guest.

However, as usual the lounge dragons are the ones who make the call on the day! Maybe you could be exceedingly nice to them on entry and flutter your lashes like mad?

That's disappointing. I'd agree with asking nicely. If the lounge isnt too busy, you might just be lucky.

I'd agree - no harm in asking. During the times I've been in the Star Alliance lounge, it seemed extremely busy from around mid-afternoon until early evening, so it depends on the timing of your flight - as blackcat20 said, you may be lucky!

Thank you so much for the responses, I will do my best exceedingly nice impression!

Keep an eye out on the lounge meet ups thread for the month youre travelling, maybe someone can guest your extra person.

cheers
