Firstly, I want to thank this fantastic site for all the great travel info which I have put to use many times. I am a newbie here and apreciate all those experienced travellers who have willingly shared their travel experiences.

I was hoping soemone could assist me with seating in starclass for a family of 4 travelling from coughet to Sydney 2 Adults & 2 children aged (8 & 4) yrs. I am quiet tall so looking for some extra leg room.

Also, I beleive the sunrise situation heading back home to Sydney can make things a little hot.

I have tried searching this site but i was unable to find the info required so apologies if I am asking things that have already been raised. I would appreciate any info.

tks Ted

Welcome to AFF Ted123! Hope you enjoy your time here.

In regards where the sun might be. It'll be on the northern side on in the southern Hemisphere. So as the plane is flying on a west - east course coming home, I'd suggest the right hand side of the plane - J/K seats. that side of the plane will be looking out to the south (in that general direction). Not bullet proof, but definately the better side IMHO.

Nick

2D for the tall one.
Being tall I generally shy away from Row 1 due to lack of legroom despite the lack of person in front reclining.
For a family they have to be split anyway
so 2a/b, 3a/b or 2a/b, 2d/e would be my thoughts.

That said I have only once hit a full starclass cabin (jq8 sin-mel a week ago)

Thank you for the info. Good point about row 1 as the legroom due to the bulkhead could be a problem. Appreciate you attaching the seatguru map as well.

Hi Nick thank you & glad to be here. I definitely enjoy the valuable information shared by all of the experienced flyers. So J/K seats will be more favourable to avoid the early sunrise. If unable to secure these seats how bad is sitting on the opposite side where the sun rises? Is it manageable?

1E is actually my preferred seat for overnight flights. at 6' the Bulkhead is not an issue, there is a little floor storage to the left and you don;t get bumped by traffic.

thanks serfty. i had a look at 1E which seems like a good seat. The only concern was being 6' and near a bulkhead but from what i am hearing it shouldn't be a problem.

My preference is the centre bulkhead. There is lots of leg room for me and I am 6ft 1in.

Hi Straitman thank you for the response. If I choose the middle bulkhead seat 1E & 1F what configuration would best suit the rest of my family directly behind in 2D & 2E with 2F as a spare -hopefully or in the front row in 1A & 1B or 1J & 1K.

I'm 6'2" and flew SYD-HKT in Starclass for the first time recently. 1A/B were more than adequate for my partner and I.

I, personally, believe families with children should be in the same row so you can see them. A couple on my flight tried to sit in row 1, and put their two children, around 4 and 6 years old, in row 2. Needless to say that idea last about 15 mins before they realised the children required supervision.

Can you confirm the SCs you picked up each way please ? Was it 120 each way (240 total) ?

Brief Rundown

My experience

Star Class on JQ28, HKT-SYD

21:00 Departure. Actual departure - Midnight. (Did get 2 SMS from Jetstar telling me about the delay, which was very good of them!

)

I couldn't get aisle seat, which is my preferred, stuck on window.

No lounge in HKT for StarClass passengers.

Food; Transcon in whY on QF is better, however, as the journey was some 8+ hours, your got 2 meals. Dinner and breakfast.

Dinner was very average and breakfast was just a warm, bacon & cheese roll, in foil. There was an alternative, but l didn't try it.

Couldn't eat dinner properly because the people in front had reclined as soon as the plane took off. FA didn't care. I was literally head-butting the seat in front of me while trying to eat my dinner.

Before and after dinner, there was some pretty loud noises coming from the forward galley. Metal on metal, clanking/smashing type noises, l thought that they were building the titanic or something.

Seats were comfy and reclined a lot !!!

Star Class has that very cheap/plastic feel to it. (It is a LCC, so what do you expect)

Cabin was full of CUBS (Cashed Up Bogans) / Yabbo's with mullets in Chang singlets getting smashed. Talk about not wanting to fly the Aussie Flag that flight (embarrassing)

Got J Class SC's and Cabin Bonus (Had to do a QF missing points claim, which is frustrating as it's a sister airline!)

As the flight was delayed getting into Sydney by almost 4 hours, there was no announcement made for people who had connecting flights or had missed flights by this stage. I just managed to run home, change, repack bags and check in for a PER flight.

If booking a Holiday, be careful which fare combo you select. I selected the Flexi Fare (2nd highest - Below StarClass), and didn't get any refreshments, but 2 fares down, the Plus Fare, you get refreshments, drinks and AVOD. I assumed by selecting a higher ticket (than Plus Fare), l would get this, but no. My fault really, but just wanted to let people know. It can be deceiving.

hi jock28. I agree with you. To be seated in the line of vision is always good unless each adult decides to sit with a child in a 2 x 2 config 1a,1b & 2a,2b.

thank you for your input.

Have been trying to book 1A/B or J/K for the bassinette due to the arrival of Djf Jnr, but they've been preallocated (sometimes only one seat) for each of our upcoming *Class flights.

Calling up the hotline only results in an assurance that they'll sort it out at the airport. Not sure why they've already been allocated when the rest of the cabin is empty, and past experience with airport control makes me quite nervous that something will come up and they won't be able to make the change once we get there. Bit annoying really, especially given the shiny, generous words on their 'Family travel' page and their infant surcharge. Hmm.

Hi Oneworldplus2 thank you for the run down and hope no bogans on my flight. Well cant expect much from a LCC. Which side of the plane did you sit on? What was your night flight experience like since you sat near a window. Did you have issues with the sunrise?

I was seated something like 3 or 4 F?? (Or the far right window seat). My preference is Aisle though. When l wanted to go to the bathroom, it was a hassle as the seats in front were reclined to max and the person next to me wasn't the "slimmest".

as serfty suggested, l would go very front, or failing that, just make sure that your in the same row somewhere.

OT; l've never been able to bring up my JQ bookings in either the JQ website or under my QF bookings page; imputing the PNR or Date/Name/Flight details, still doesn't work. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi,

I only flew one way SYD-HKT and the SCs haven't posted yet. We returned on VA. For real flat beds, you're crazy not to, especially for the same price. See my TR on FT JQ *Class vs VA Business SYD-HKT return - FlyerTalk Forums

As for the first row, Jetstar have a habit of moving preallocated pax for use of the bassinet, so I suggest you get there early, around T-2:45 is when they seem to open.

Also, I believe the metal clanking sound mentioned above is the air conditioning. I heard it and got a little anxious until the pax in 2D who I assumed was a positioning pilot or first officer (all of the pilots came to talk to her about work, and she was very well looked after by the crew) told me that it was just condensation.

I certainly hope they do!

Get to the airport early enough and this shouldn't be a problem; the agent at coughet once asked me to give up 1a and 1b for a couple with an infant, I politely but firmly refused and wasn't moved. My comfort is no less important than theirs, and I've gone to the trouble to organise myself ahead of time.

It's no great hardship for a couple to share lap-child duties in that cabin, the seats are wide enough to give them space.

If the people who "need" the bassinet seat don't have the foresight to organise their seat allocation far enough in advance to ensure they get it, then tough.

When I'm traveling alone in *Class, I try for 2D.

Hi ted123,

I missed seeing your post to respond. I would do as you say and pick 1E & 1F and 2D & 2E. Even if 2F is allocated to someone else the person in 2E can exit without too much effort past the 2D person.
