Starclass Flight from coughet to Sydney - One way

Get to the airport early enough and this shouldn't be a problem; the agent at coughet once asked me to give up 1a and 1b for a couple with an infant, I politely but firmly refused and wasn't moved. My comfort is no less important than theirs, and I've gone to the trouble to organise myself ahead of time.

It's no great hardship for a couple to share lap-child duties in that cabin, the seats are wide enough to give them space.

If the people who "need" the bassinet seat don't have the foresight to organise their seat allocation far enough in advance to ensure they get it, then tough.

When I'm traveling alone in *Class, I try for 2D.
I don't agree with this as a philosophy because the airline could just as easily tell you, rather than ask you, that they have moved you to something a whole lot worse and then you have no come back.

Remember that seat allocations are not guaranteed.

Quite true, however in maybe a dozen *class flights this is the only time I've seen the bassinet used, and I've always been given the seat that I requested when I made the booking. So, I reckon it's worth the risk.

If they moved me without asking me, well so be it; but I wouldn't be happy and would move up a notch from being the low-maintenance passenger that I normally am.

Your experience is greater than mine with this. My experience is one of two.

No point IMHO. As I said before the ticket T&C state that seat allocations are not guaranteed.

As I said earlier, at coughet I was once asked to give up my seat, refused and that was the end of it. So, IMHO, there certainly is a point. Their T&Cs state that they can pretty much do whatever they want to you whenever they want. What actually happens is a different matter.
