Hi,,,

On this forum there seems to be different views as to what StarClass Promo (ie the special offer to upgrade from an existing JQ economy ticket to StarClass for an extra $200) will earn you in terms of QFF Status Credits. Is it at QFF Business rate or QFF economy rate.

Has anyone had a StarClass Promo Upgrade flight yet?? and if so what did it earn you :

*SC wise (ie at economy or Business earn)

*Mileage wise( ie at economy rate or with the 25% business bonus).

In addition it has been said that with the Promo offer that any connecting domestic legs if on QF metal (and mine will be) wil be in economy rather than business.

Is it the case that the domestic leg then erans ata Economy rate...even if the International leg is at the Business rate?

Thanks if anyone can clarify what the situation actually is for both International and /or connecting QF domestic.

In all the research I have done about points being earned for Starclass - the fare seems to be irrelevant, the main issue is the Class. According to Qantas Frequent Flyer rules, I have not yet found any specific reference to the fare type, just a generic reference that SC's and points will be earned as "Business Class" when you fly Star Class on JQ.
However there is a difference between refundablility.
The other note, when you book a star class fare (promo or otherwise) connecting flights on qantas (JQ Codeshare) "Should" be is Business class except where that class does not exist. Obvioulsy on JQ connecting flights within Australia and TT there is no star class so travel would be economy.

Yes....I agree..I have yet to see in writing that there is a difference bewtween StaClass Promo and "normal" Sytarclass fares in terms of:

*points
*SC earn
*domestic travel on QF where business class is avaialble...

Yet it is hinted by some that there is a difference.

I guess we just have to wait fora trip report.....and for the points ?Sc earn to post.....to confirm one way or another.

I returned Monday from a Melb - Bangkok trip in Starclass. I was on a promo fare bought on the Sports Mad sale for $602 eachway, which was nearly a $400 discount eachway. I received the full business class points and SC for the trip over (still waiting for the return trip points to be awarded) as well as the bonus 5000 per leg offered if you register with Jetstar for travel in Star Class for February and March. The extra SC also got me to a loyalty bonus of 5000. A total of 15717 FF points for the oneway leg, plus 120 SC, the return should be more FF points as the SC on the way over elevated me to a Silver FF. I am very happy with this for the fare I paid. The comfort in Starclass was quite good, better than BA World traveller plus. The FF points and SC were a lot better too.

Dizey: I was on the same flight as you! JQ30. 12 Feb.

I too received 120 SC and 8004 pts + 5000 pts for the flight from MEL to BKK.

But I am still yet to see the SC and pts for the return leg (BKK to MEL).

That's wierd that they haven't allocated the points for that trip yet. My partner hasn't received his points yet either. I put in a missing points claim for both of us yesterday, but as yet nothing. I was only a bronze on the way over, so that must be why you got more basic FF points, but mine will be for silver on the way back.

As I posted elsewhere, my JQ30 BKK-MEl SC's and Points did not post until 18 days after the flight. Flight was Dec 4, posted on Dec 22

I waited 3 days before putting the online claim in, then Rang QFF a week later. I was advised to wait the two weeks. The points posted exactly two weeks after submitting my online claim.

Thanks serfty for the info. When I submitted the points claim online it came up that it would be resolved in 3 days, obviously that may not be the case. I don't understand the problem when the points for the flight over were awarded quickly as were our Melb - Syd flights bothways. Still not for us to understand the powers that be, as long as I get the points is all that matters in the long run, I guess. By the way, they didn't let us keep the headsets, must have decided they were giving away too many, you were lucky to get to keep them, they were good.

Just put in my online claim

I get the feeling that QFF is going to stuff it up.

Will probably not realise it was a StarClass trip, or perhaps forget to give me the 5000 pts bonus for travelling StarClass in Feb.

Hmmmm... Somehow i get the idea that QFF are very tight with giving out SC and pts for JetStar

I'll make sure I have my own spare unused AA battery; the ones that come with the headsets don't seem to last too long at all ...

Not quite, you can connect to JQ SYD departures if you take JQ21 which does have starclass ex BNE.

To resurrect an old chestnut:

The SC and points earn on Jet* Starclass Promo

We're off to HNL, and enjoying our first experience in Qantas Club.

However, the check-in desk was underwhelming.

The blunt, rude lady in charge (initials J.Y.) had a first response of "you won't be needing those FF cards, you won't earn any points". She went on to explain 3 times that only FULL paying *class earnt points.

I've covered this with QFF and Jet* on the phone, and nowhere in the fare conditions does it suggest no points.

Service desk guy then said SC earn was Business class, but no points earned. (!)

QFF phone line says if in J or D, OK for Business class points.

The most disappointing thing was a list of all passengers who'd checked in before me, for me to read on the counter, together with passport nos., address in the USA, DOB etc.

Talk about breach of confidentiality!

J.Y.: "we agree, it's not right, but our system goes down all the time and we can't call people at the gate if we don't have a list".

Dodgy brothers.

Will keep forum posted.

She was, and is wrong! (If you paid for a financial [e.g. you used the JetStar website to book] StarClass fare, you get the points.)

...half way there! You do get points. (If you didn’t get your FF# entered at Check In, or at the gate, you will have to claim posthumously.)

Yes, a low cost way of collecting some of the personal details required under US law.

Unfortunately, my guess is, only T2 QP staff in SYD have any JQ training, or computer access. In my opnion - T1 QP staff are still a bit up themselves in regard to the whole JetStar thing...And there’s a big sign outside T3 QP, telling JQ passengers to piss off! :( (Well...i may have paraphrased.)

Vice Versa, most JQ staff seem to have very little training in QF products, including QAN Group loyalty products. I suspect though, JQi cabin crew have received training regarding status/CL. (If you were checked in by QF staff at T1 SYD, some have little love for being placed on the JQ counters, and make that plainly clear with their attitude.) I assume you wrote this from QP, so being a Thursday that places you at T1 SYD.

Lesson here is that many agents know a lot less about these things than you can find out here. ;) It's best not to waste your time and their's by asking. :-|

Last month I flew MEL-BKK using the $602 StarClass cricket promo fare. As a QF WP I earned the following:
  • 4,573 Base points
  • 1,144 Cabin bonus points
  • 4,573 Status Bonus Points
  • 5,000 StarClass extra bonus points promotion
  • 15,290 Total Points
  • 120 Status Credit
(I also did the return, but am doing some research in why one seems to always need to put in a claim for these.)

I really hope it isn't posthumously

Would not be of any value to someone with a lifetime membership  .

It wasn't just the length of time that had me worried. A speedy deceasement (during the flight) would be worse!

Dunno about that, my outbound points/SC's posted the day after; the BKK-MEL one's still have not posted. I have a felling if one doesn't put their 'hand up' for these inbound credits, posthumous may be correct. :-|

I had a similar situation in December when they took 18 days to post after:
  • Waiting 3 days
  • Doing an on-line claim
  • Waiting another 10 days
  • Calling QFF and asking
  • Waiting another 5 Days
  • After all that, they posted.
So this time I waited 18 days to see if they would post before putting an on-line claim in. I will wait another 10 working days after that and if they still have not posted I will call Qantas.
