this is my first post of the forum.. but have been lurking on here for a while.,
sorry for the amateur question but I am going to reach silver status in two months but i have 6 months til my anniversary.. will i have to wait 6 months for my status to change... what is the process?

As soon as you reach 350 Status Credits then you will qualify for silver and you will remain silver until the end of the current membership year plus for the next year giving you about 16 months Silver status. Any status credits you earn between getting silver and end of membership year will count towards reaching gold

when your year renewal date occurs, then you have 12 months to earn the 300SCs to renew

As soon as the flight credits; which can be less than 12 hours the new status will show up online or your new boarding pass.

I flew LAX-SYD which is a 15 hour flight and received a new boarding pass at the Sydney international domestic transfer check in area to see that my status had been updated. I was most impressed.

Maybe there is a 12:00am update; anyone know.

Welcome to AFF.

As Dave says you will have the full year plus to enjoy your Silver status. Careful as this site becomes addictive and you will shortly be pushing onward to Gold :!:

Flying tomorrow evening and would love for my new status to kick in (but we are talking about LAN SCs - with missing points claim and follow up email with BP/e-ticket submitted and follow up call to service centre - so frustrating in many respects).

Good luck. Just don't wait too long and be proactive on chasing them up if necessary.

I remember the day I attained SG level. I flew CBR-BNE in the morning as a PS and deliberately didn't check in for the return that afternoon because that was the qualifying trip.

When I checked in to return home that afternoon at the BNE QP I was very happy to see my new status on the BP. Maybe six hours from my arrival that morning.

The new status change does include week ends. I changed status to silver on a Saturday morning flight and when I did OLCI that afternoon for the Sunday flight I was silver in my account. I enjoyed checking in at the business counter and bypassed the huge queues at economy.
Received the silver pack about a week later. New card and 2 baggage tags.

I too just went Silver last night with my status updating within 4 hrs of the QF flight.
I was itching to see the change on my QF account. Wife very impressed as the business counter check-in on holidays will be worth it alone (plus advance seat selection). I still have until 31st Dec to shoot for Gold ... which I'm now going to do. 90% work funded (cheapest economy) most domestic (plus some NZ). But I figure I've got a solid chance of Gold. My forward schedule has me at at 80%+ chance of Gold. So will be working hard to slam in extra flights where possible.

You are all correct ... once I started 'collecting', it's become an obsession. Dam you Qantas for doing this to me. Wanting those silly points & SCs.

Thanks to all the posters ... your info re seats, points, SCs and other tips has been wonderful and made flying discount Y ok.

Well done on making Silver and welcome to AFF.. Good luck on making Gold! Iknow exactly how you feel! If you believe you are 80% of the way there, perhaps look at any creative routing you can do to maximise SC's. but that will depend on where you are flying to and departing from! Don't be afraid to post questions as we are all happy to help.

And as you haven't got to gold yet, don't forget to post your travel movements, you may find people able to guest you into the QP... Then you'll get a taste for it!

Well, after several phone calls and a weeks' delay my LAN points finally posted, and after 2.5 years on this site, a DONE4, a side trip through AAdvantage Platinum and QF PG, and no help at all from QF and their 'targeted' SC promotions, I finally made WP.

What a relief - the pity is after flying so much over the past few years to get there, I am seriously almost over it!

I flew back from SYD today and within 2 hours my account had updated reflecting I had passed SG re-qualified. not bad for 3 months of flying! on track for WP this year!

Hopefully, you don't mind if I add a status change related question on lounge access.

According to the plan I'll be getting to Platinum in September. I then have 2 flights with other airlines before I'll have a chance to get my Platinum card. The lack of card will make using anytime access difficult I suspect. Are the lounge staff able to check my status, say if I present my gold card? Are they likely to accept a statement print out?

Ordinarily, I wouldn't care but one of those flights is with Tiger, so I might need some "medicine" beforehand.
