status change

Hopefully, you don't mind if I add a status change related question on lounge access.

According to the plan I'll be getting to Platinum in September. I then have 2 flights with other airlines before I'll have a chance to get my Platinum card. The lack of card will make using anytime access difficult I suspect. Are the lounge staff able to check my status, say if I present my gold card? Are they likely to accept a statement print out?

Ordinarily, I wouldn't care but one of those flights is with Tiger, so I might need some "medicine" beforehand.

When anat0l hit WP, he was let in showing a statement printout that he was WP. I believe they *should* be able to check, anyway... not sure if it will be different for 'anytime access', they may be a bit stricter? Just try and see how you go I guess.

Was about to test this last night but didn't end up heading in to the airport.

Should be able to give you an answer from direct experience next week as I doubt my WP card will have arrived - but fwiw Mrs Djf was able to use anytime access with her SG card prior to the arrival of her WP card. They simply scanned it and it showed up as WP on their computer. Whether or not that will allow you to take advantage of the 'unofficial' anytime access to the J lounge is another thing though.

Cool, I'll give it a shot.
I've just realised with the TT flight anyway that, between the timing of leaving work and having to line up to check luggage, spare time is probably not going to be an issue.

Luckily, it'll be SYD T2 and ADL so J lounge wouldn't be an issue either. ;)

Ah cool! Let us know how you get on.

I'm not sure luckily is the right word, either :D

jdella,

Welcome to AFF.

As Dave says you will have the full year plus to enjoy your Silver status. Careful as this site becomes addictive and you will shortly be pushing onward to Gold :!:

Partner Gold i assumed you were talking about - or was it lifetime Gold?

Hi all,

My friend is currently a WP until 28th Feb and doesnt have enough SC to maintain it (he will send the letter and hope for the best).... when does QF downgrade him?

He is travelling on the 2nd March till 6th March...will he still have WP status?

Don't believe so - unless they comp an extra year depending on whether he's been comped before and/or how close he is to requalification (ie if they've discussed his planned forward travel arrangements).

I realise I hadn't confirmed what happened before my WP card arrived above - my boarding pass sufficed on that occasion. Though I didn't have to use it then, obviously anytime access is on its last legs now.

A few factors are likely to play into this.

Early January he may find that the status has been extended, but this will depend on whether he has been comped status before, how many SC he actually has, and several other black magic items that QFF use.

Even if there is a downgrade of status, the existing status often hangs around for a couple of days after the year end, so Mar 2 may squeak in as a Platinum.

If your friend will be automatically comped Platinum status this should happen on ~3 January 2011. If it does not happen then he may receive a please explain letter/email asking him to outline future travel plans and if all this still fails then it is possible he will be comped Platinum status at the reassessment date without prior notification.

Generally every Platinum is comped at least once so if he has not already been comped in previous years there is a good chance he willl be comped. I have been comped Platinum 3 years in a row although I did make Platinum status through flying in each of those years. Won't get a chance to see if I will be comped 4 years in a row as I will have Platinum status well before 8 weeks before reassessment date.

Sometimes it takes a few days for the new status to be reflected on the QFF profile. If he does OLCI the day before and prints a boarding pass with Platinum status then he will have Platinum benefits for those flights.

Just hope that the boarding pass is not reprinted at check-in or in the lounge.

Anecdotes indicate status generally does not downgrade until between 4 and 7 days into the month.

It has been suggested that this is to allow time for SC to post from flights taken late in the expiry month.

In any case the WP status should hold up for a 2nd march Flight; the 6th March flight may show up as SG.
