Status Credit Runs

If you book a classic reward leg of a journey in business or economy class (on Qantas), will you earn status credits for that leg of the journey, and at what rate will you earn those credits? E.g. if i flew sydney to brisbane on an economy sale fare I get 10 status credits, 20 on a flexible economy fare, 40 on a business fare and 45 on a flexible business fare (according to their online calculator).

But if I flew that same leg using my miles, how much would I get?

thanks for all your patience guys.

Zero. Classic awards don't earn.
Points plus pay does earn, but is very bad value for business class fares. Points plus pay might work well for the cheapest economy sale fares.

So the trick is to play around with different 'multi-trips' on google flights?
So for example if on my US trip to get to san francisco I would be better off (status credit wise) to fly MEL-BNE-LAX-SFO/MEL-SYN-LAX-SFO. I guess where im struggling is getting these convoluted routes cheaper than a simple direct/one stop over flight
The indirect routes are not always cheaper.

Booked a BNE-SYD-HKG return on Qantas last night. The direct flights were ~AUD699 and my flights were ~AUD60 more and an extra 20 SCs.

Sometimes Zuji or Expedia can have some interesting routes not available on Qantas website.

yes I have started to realise this over the past week... this status run thing just does not seem worth it at my current point in life unless great deals are out and everything else can align.
I'll manage one day i'm sure

I can't see anywhere where the status run discussions have been pointed out. There is entire threads on all this information and far more detail. I can't work out how to post the link on the app but all these questions and so much more that you haven't even considered are in there.
