Since I've got Buckleys of gaining enougyh status credits this year to retain platinum status (and will fall a long way short) I'm wondering what the likely outcome will be?

I'm hoping to get away with being demoted only one grade to gold, though It'll be touch and go whether I even get enough for that. For those who have experienced such things, how hopeful can I be of not being kicked down the line to silver?

Thanks!

There was a 12 months gratis extension for all QF status levels announced in the final quarter of last year,

On my understanding no need to panic just yet!
The issue is that the status support has ended after December 2022 (meaning if you hold QF Platinum now and your membership year ends sometime in 2023 you won't receive any further extension):

Whilst a drop down to Gold isn't the end of the world, I reckon it's far from ideal. The key question will of course be when your program year ends? The reason I ask is it seems somewhat likely that QF will offer another double status credits promotion sometime this year (likely late March I reckon) and if that's the case, it may be possible to put yourself in a situation where you can retain Gold. Case in point, I bought an $1100 AUD J fare last year during the promotion between SYD and AKL (connecting in MEL) and racked up 480 status credits. Not a bad haul!

Not true. status extensions are offered all the way to June 2023. July onwards need to do something

So, if Frentree's membership year ends June 30 or earlier, will be extended. Otherwise, expect a demotion to gold.

if Ferntree will get a soft landing to Gold, why does he need to qualify for Gold in the current year. I'm thinking save his status run(s) for the next qualifying year when he can get Gold and therefore into 2025 by which time he might be back to Platinum flight intensity.

Is the soft landing a published thing? or is it just how its always been done that way ?

I stand corrected. In that case, supposing their year ends by June 2023, the ideal strategy is to aim to accumulate status for the following year.

There were even better deals than that for those based in MEL. MEL-BNE-CHC got 560 SC during the promo.

I went via SYD in one direction and BNE the other to get 520 SC.

A NZ promo lining up with a DSC promo was nice last year, but if there is a DSC promo that may/may not happen this year.

A “July“ anniversary WP here also and currently a few hundred SCs short of requalifying but at least I have LTG in my back pocket. Still hoping to get a Euro trip in July to squeak over the line….

RE “soft landings” - it’s interesting QF didn‘t publish that after VA put theirs in writing. Especially since “comped” status was enhanced some years ago.

If you dont retain status how long does it take to reflect on your profile? Eg WP not being able to renew, but travelling the first few days in the new membership year, any chance of First lounge access?

As long as you app still shows WP then the FLounge is yours... you generally have at least two days ...
