Firstly I apologise - I know this information is in the forum somewhere, but after searching all night I am getting frustrated. I am 180sc short of Gold, cut off date is 31 July. QF have already posted me out my Silver card and changed the reassesment date to 2010. I have 100sc worth of trips booked in before cut off date, and then 7 days after cut off date I have another 80sc's booked in plus 2 Jetstar flights which dont earn points.

What are my chances of a 7 day extension in this situation? Will they give it to me on request?

Once again sorry - I read the likelyhood of this happening on here 6 months ago but can not for the life of me find the thread.

Thanks.

supersizeme,

Qantas as a rule do not grant extensions like you ask.

Why should they :?:

As always there is no harm in asking but do not be surprised or upset if they say no. Perhaps you need to decide how important getting those extra SC's (and Gold) is to you and if necessary make an extra trip to ensure you achieve Gold on merit.

If you are currently a silver member, seeking to qualify for the first time as gold, then the chance is pretty much zero. I am not aware of anyway ever succeeding in gaining such an extension.

Unfortunately there is not much likelihood of been given an extension on the reassessment date.

Since you have already received the Silver kit I would assume you are Silver trying to qualify for Gold in which case I am afraid you will need to get the necessary SCs before your reassessment date.

If you were already Gold and did not have enough SCs by your reassessment date Qantas could have given you complimentary Gold status ~8 weeks prior to your reassessment date or the offer of returning a please letter with the possibility of extending Gold for another year.

Thanks all! Didn't think so :(

I am a silver going for first time gold. As you suggested I have been trying to assess how much I would be willing to pay to get the extra 80scs, the only benefit I like is club access, so paying $1500 for a PER-MEL fully flex ticket isn't a good return on investment. I could do an Adelaide J run for $999 and return on something cheap I guess - still pushing it for value in my opinion.

Thanks again for the quick answers.

It's up to you if you think it's worth it.

Where do you live? PER?

You could fly PER-SYD on a Friday Night Red eye (20SC) , SYD-MEL on the 3pm Sat JQi flight in Starclass 40SC and return to PER that evening (20SC) for around $890!

Gold is so much better than standard QC membership. Especially if you ever fly overseas on oneworld airlines. I've been op-uped more times on BA than I have on Qantas! (My sucess rate is about 25%. Pretty good if you ask me!)

The 50% status bonus doesn't go astray either.

I was in a similar position to you about 3 years ago but I had a RTW booking a few months after my reassessment - I decided to do a status run to get gold so I would have it for the trip. I felt a little silly (flew BNE-MEL-ADL-SYD-BNE in one day) but it was worth every dollar. Now of course it's easier to maintain than achieve so I haven't had to do any status runs since.

Thanks Justin - that is the inspiration I needed!!! :p

Looks like a mileage run is on the cards for me!! Any other suggestions to earn 80scs leaving from Perth? Would rather not overnight anywhere - cash is tight, I have just purchased my first home haha.

It's tough from PER.

The ADL J run with J one-way and red e-deal the other will earn 100 SC's and cost from $1160.

ADL Flex e/w will earn 80 SC's and cost from $1180.

SIN will earn 50 SC's and cost $830, you still need to find another 30 SC's.

ADL is your least time consuming option - the JQi PER-SYD-MEL-PER option has you departing PER at 5:45am Saturday and arriving back 9pm the same day.

Depends on how much time you have...

Take the cheapest flight to SIN (JQ TT whatever)
CX is offering J return to BKK for SG$399++ (overnight required but AU$120 including round trip taxi will cover a reasonable (3*) hotel with dinner and breakfast)

get cheap QF ticket SIN-PER (SG$433) or even cheaper (JQ TT)
(or better get the round trip on QF for about SG$500)

More than enough SC even with the cheap RT to SIN

The QF mileage runs from Perth are found in Singapore:shock::cool::mrgreen:
(AU$1=SG$1.15)

Happy wandering

Thanks guys. Serfty I tend to agree - the Adelaide run is the least time consuming, but the PER-SYD-MEL-PER run is a few hundred cheaper.

I can get a Tiger return PER-SIN-PER for 312.35 but I can't see how much status credits the SIN-BKK-SIN J fares would get me? Where are the QF SG500 return fares you speak of?

Thanks again.

but i can't see how much status credits the sin-bkk-sin j fares would get me?

$906 QF+CX PER to HKG stop over in Singapore. 50 SCs return to SIN - how do I find out about the SCs SIN to HKG?

Damn: PER-SIN-HKG-PER 75 SCs for $906. 5 Short :(

Thanks V8 - where do you find that info? I've looked at Asia Miles with no luck.

$906 QF+CX PER to HKG stop over in Singapore. 50 SCs return to SIN - how do I find out about the SCs SIN to HKG?

PER/SYD QF568 $244 SC 20
SYD/AVV JQ607 $239 SC 20
AVV/SYD JQ610 $239 SC 20
SYD/AVV JQ613 $239 SC 20
MEL/PER JQ970 $469 SC 40

$1430 / SC 120

Mr!

Near the upper left of the qantas.com homepage is a label "Your region"

Change it to singapore.

Select round trip PER 11 Aug 13 Aug fare inclusive is $SG498

Click the back button

Select one way (11 Aug) SIN-PER
Flights $SG433

AFAIK the CX fare SIN-BKK is on their website - Again select Singapore as your choice (upper right) As mentioned 120 QF SC round trip

Add 25 for the QF SIN-PER leg and you have an excess in SC to needs

Happy wandering

Ok here is the final plan:

I have a PER-DRW-PER next weekend booked in worth $365. What I am going to do is cancel that and try to book:

PER-SIN on Tiger $156.00
SIN-BKK-SIN on Cathay J $419.00 = 120sc
SIN-PER on Qantas $378.00 = 25sc

TOTAL $953 - 365 = $588.00 for 145sc.

My next question is (and I totally apologise for asking so much of you guys), am I going to have grief from QF for trying to change my two Red-E-Deal Darwin tickets into the SIN-PER leg? Also how do I get them to re-book using the Singapore region prices instead of the Australian region prices? I think I am about to try to push cough up a hill??
