After a less than stellar year last year for those of us in the resources industry, my run of SG looked like coming to and end on April 30 with only 310 SC's to date. Given that I have a couple of reasonably significant holidays planned for the next 12 months, I was really going to miss the extra baggage allowance and lounge access, priority boarding / check in etc.

So, late last week and following the lead of other posters here, I emailed Qantas, and yesterday received a phone call from QFF customer service in which I was briefly asked about pending travel. Net result - comped for the coming year.

So...Thanks Qantas and thanks AFF for giving me the idea of chasing it up!

Rockdoc.
Great outcome, I had the same thing happen last week. In fact we share the same assessment date. I emailed Qantas and got a reply email advising that I had been renewed. I am currently 320 SC's short. I had advised QF that I would end up at 400 credits so still 200 shy.

Hey Batesy,

It was actually reading your post that gave me the impetus to email them!

In addition to normal work flights, I have PER-SYD-ZQN-MEL-PER coming up in July, and then an award flight for myself and the lady PER-NRT-PER for three weeks of northern hemisphere snow in Feb '11. All our snowboard gear makes priority baggage a real boon, and since the award flight is going to be X bucket, lounge access is going to be good to psych myself for the cramped 10 hours.

Perhaps I should also thank you personally for being my inspiration ... so thanks! :o

Congratulations on a positive outcome. I am sitting at 410 of the 1,200 I need. But I think I will go on a 800 Status credit holiday. I am not a Fan of Flying just for SC, but I am a fan of working it backwards.

IE. I need 800 SC, so where shall I go and what route will I take to achieve it. In the past it has netted me some good holidays in "out there" places! Eg Bulgaria and Iceland :)
Sounds like an interesting way to have a good holiday.

Do you think BNE-SIN-TPE-HKG-(SIN)-HKG-BKK in 1.5 days is the long way to get to BKK? ;)

Sounds a familiar story ;) 'tis how I ended up in Mexico and Cuba!

I was also inspired by some of these posts and as I just missed out on WP for the first time I thought there is no harm in asking...got a polite reply that although they try to hep members retain their status, you gotta earn it the first time round!

(Hey drewbles & notzac, going to Cuba in July; feel free to send me a PM if you have any tips as I don't want to hijack this thread.)

Interestingly, I made WP last membership year with PG (2500+SCs) for the first time but no acknowledgement from QF at all. I wonder is it because I had many years ago bought QC partner membership for Mrs KitKat who has on her own flying been WP the past few years... yes true not much use for us but just curious

Yes, Qantas does keep track of QC "partners", and will auto-comp them if you've previously nominated them.

I received a letter from Qantas with my Platinum kit dated 5 April 2010 (exactly 8 weeks short of my reassessment date) and given complimentary Platinum status again. That is 3 years in a row. You know what they say about going to the well too many times for a drink.

I did attain Platinum on my own right by 18 April 2010 and did so the last 2 years as well. I guess when I attain Platinum status the complimentary Platinum status given is reset.

It would be nice to keep that "get out of jail free" card for a time when one may actually need it.
