Mal, I had no contact either for my SG renewal late October, to the point I thought I was taking my last flight as a SG on Oct 31 given I had only 120Sc's this year, but I was recomped and only received the new card as any formal correspondance, I was not comped last year, so it ss not that unusual AFAIK.

Can you recall when your "Status reassessment will occur" date was updated online?

Finally got my "tell us your travel plans" email today.

All moot as I'm due to earn the SC's anyway due to a quick holiday planned before my status expiry.

They could have sent the letter a little earlier. Would you still have gone on holidays as it could have taken at least a week or so for any decision to be made?

My new find for SCs that we discussed the other day must have been an error or loophole as it is no longer available today. It was available earlier today but by this afternoon it had disappeared. :( I should have booked it yesterday but did not have suffcient funds in the Amex account.

Yeah still would have gone. Looking forward to some warm weather!

That's disappointing. Another might turn up.

I remember having a flight that left a few days after my status points expired, this flight would have got me silver. I rang them for a few day extension and said I only need 20 points!!!

They said they cant bend the rules.... I have not got near silver since... Very disappointed but that is the rules...

That's waaaay later than normal ... my guess is that you were on the cusp and needed a closer review ...

If you were a bronze at the time, this is normal. The original qualification is strictly enforced - it is the requalifications where the sometimes extend when you haven't made it.

Did you book a Starclass deal to Asia like I Did? 240 SC's from SYD-HKT.
Mine will see me short 20 SCs short of maintaining gold which I am hoping to get comped or I will do a short run.

Nah, ex-LHR to Asia, a few flights around the place, then back to LHR. Both a status run and also a small holiday.

I have managed to improvise and actually came up with a better SC/$ ratio with the new routings.

It would have been nice to spend a day or so in SIN but with the new routing I may not have an overnight transit in SIN. Oh well....

Anyone had comp gold retain status with Qantas?

My gold status expires in September, I have a number of flights booked between now and then. However, I might be short the required amount of credits if my travel plans don't increase.

Therefore my question is have you ever retained the status even when you were short credits, how many credits where you short, how soon before the cut off date were you given gold again and when did this happen?

Many thanks in advance

Re: Anyone had comp gold retain Sstatus with Qantas?

I managed to hang onto Gold status for 5 years even though I only qualified once! A couple of times there were programme 'enhancements' during the year - I think when they changed from kms to miles was one - where they comped everyone probably. Twice I know I was within 100 SCs and when I got the letter from QF I told them I had heaps of travel planned in the next 12 months due to a job change. This was basically true - I was supposed to do a few overseas trips in those years and once it fell through due to a company merger and the other time due to a downturn.

If you get the letter you've got a chance, if not then zero.

Re: Anyone had comp gold retain Sstatus with Qantas?

Generally, experience suggests that there are two possible opportunities for extending status, if you don't have sufficient SC's:

1) Approximately 2 months from your assessment date, QFF may decide to extend your status, with no involvement from you.
2) They may instead send a letter or email asking you to detail your travel plans over the next 12 months, and they will make a decision based on your response.

Failing either of the above happening, you will most likely drop down to silver (although step 1 sometimes happens closed to assessment date)

Generally either a status extension or "explain" letter occurs about 8 weeks before expiry (although in Mal's recent case it was more like 5 weeks).

(Merged to specific thread on this.)

I was at 120SC last year, no letter or email about plans, no flights booked, flew on Oct 30 and celebrated what I thought would be my last SG flight, three days later I was compd Gold again, previous year SC's were around 800, so average of two years still less than that required. Totally unexpected and very much appreciated, I think some companies looked at loyalty with a different view last year because of conditions, that may change this year.

Interesting conclusion to my status renewal. Have been busy flying around to actually earn the 1200 SC's required. Flying is nearly done, but not all SC's have posted and I'm currently >1150. Will end up around 1300 for the year.

Qantas has now comped me without actually having the 1200, although they should be able to see from my bookings that I'd easily get there.

So it appears that there are multiple points where your status is assessed before the end of the year.

Got my requal pack today (nice and slim compared to what they used to send!). In it the letter had the standard blurb about comping me and expecting me to fly the required SC's next year. The crazy thing is that if they had've waited one more day I would have been over the 1200!

As this is now my 2nd year that I've been comp'd (but actually flew the SC's required each time), I wonder if they know I did the miles or just think I've been comp'd...
