I only just requalified for SG by about 5 SCs. No mention of a comp for me at any stage.

Ditto but with 10 SCs to spare...I was comped last year so knew that I was v.unlikely to be comped again this year, so made sure I requalified for SG on my own bat:mrgreen:

800 SC's short seems a bit much to comp? I haven't been compd before - i can understand comping a few SC short but 800?

I mean good luck m8, I hope you do but 800 is a lot to expect.

Rumours are that they take into account your average SCs over the past few years to see if on average you would have made it.

I can verify this. I had a long chat with a reasonably senior guy in the FF division last week. They look at the last 2 to 3 years and average it out. In my case (40 points short of WP) they will happily comp me - but his advice was get them anyway since they will not comp you twice. So if I am short next year better not to have been so close and comped this year.

The real question is, will they comp you ever again (say in 5 years time when you've made WP again but fall down..)

I had 2 comps in a row when I first dropped from WP.

Comp and WP, then dropped to Gold, comp at Gold next immediate year.

Maybe comping is still a bit too new for anyone to have tested and reported on this (as it would take 5 years to test!)

Hope this doesn't apply if you are comped (say 6 weeks out from anniversary date) and earn it in your own right within the qualifying period ! My partner had this situation last year, being comped about a month or so out, but making it to the 1200 number anyway 1 week out.

This was discussed. If you make it you are "uncomped" so to speak and are eligible the year after.

Well its 1st of OCT and my SC have expired (shows 1200 required for WP by Sep 2010).

Still says WP, but then it says status reassessment due to occur Sep 2009.

Go figure...

They will hold you at WP for a couple of days, and then downgrade your status. This seems to be in case any late Sept SC's come through that would have resulted in you staying at WP.

Anecdotal evidence indicates your status will stay WP for a few days.

It has been conjectured Qantas do this is due to the possibility of some more SC's posting from flights taken late last month (which may or may no be enough re-qualify you) that have not as yet come through.

Once the few days (a week?) are up you will find the soft landing process begins.

That is what happened to me in 2008. I flew my re qualifying flight on the last day of my year. It took 4 days for the SC's to post. I never fell from platinum.

Well I just requalified for Gold by a week.

I checked my summary page on 30/09 and I thought it was funny that all I needed was another 795 SCs to make Platinum by that evening!

Now that would be a real status run/sprint!

Gee QFF have comped my existing status every year without fail ;):D

We can speculate all we like but does anyone really know the criteria used by QF when comping status? I don't believe SCs averaging has anything to do with it. I made exactly 1400 SCs first year Platinum and then comped Platinum 2nd and 3rd year while I was still short of Platinum although both times I attained Platinum before my reassessment date.

That is my concern as well. I will fall short of Platinum this year unless I do some status runs. Will be interesting to see whether QF comps me Platinum again in early April 2010.

Not quite 800SCs short but quite close.

I was 690 SC short of Platinum - with two months to go - So I hadn't made even GOLD. Believe it or not - got comped up to Platinum, two months in advance. This is after only achieveing 650 SC in the previous year and still retaining Plats.

I agree with JohnK here.

This seems to change with the wind.

My first Platinum renewal I only had approx 270SC and was comped for my second year so that certainly did not work on the average theory yet others have seemingly had it work as such.
