Sorry if this is an extremely basic question. But what is actually meant by a break from paid employment.

Ie if my workplace pays me parental leave for 20 weeks, or half pay over 40 weeks, is this considered a break from paid employment, as I am not working?
Or do they consider it, as being paid?

As the next level would be, given the Fed govt now pays parental leave (which I wont be eligible for :() does that mean, if any payment is paid employment, that no one these days is eligible?

Again sorry for the potential idiocy of asking about what words mean!

I wouldn’t get caught up in the wording.

If you are employed, but taking parental leave, that’s the whole purpose of the status hold program. I think it’s a given that most people will be getting some form of parental leave entitlements during the period.

I don’t actually know why you have to be in ‘paid employment’ to start with… the same rights should be extended to any parent, regardless of whether they work or not! But that’s a separate issue.

Yes that is sufficient. I was paid for all of my mat leave but that was all ok for QF parental pause.

How long did it take to come through? We submitted all documents around two weeks ago but haven't heard from Qantas yet.

Slightly confused with parental hold for a colleague hoping the AFF brains trust can answer, I couldn’t!

- Colleague has status hold (plat) until Jan 2025
- Status Year ends 31 Jan every year
- Is currently at about 700 status credits for this year ending 31 Jan 2024

Question is, do their SCs still reset to zero on 31 Jan 2024 (although the retain Plat though the hold)? Or does the status hold mean no reset of status credits until the hold expires?

I THINK the status credits will reset to zero on Jan 31 2024 but wasn’t sure. Any thoughts?

My partners status credits did not reset to 0 during parental hold. She kept the same number of sc (plus what was accumulated through flying). It will only change if she'd reach a higher tier during the hold time as it will automatically ends the parental hold.

Hard to find solid answers to these status hold parental leave Q's. But AFF as good as anywhere.

I went thru it with VA with our little ones, but was COVID times so didn't end up using it. Did find the VA T&C's easier to divulge than reading QFs. The your getting paid bit seemed to exclude us and many others, as said upthread many likely to get some sorta payment.

I only suggest calling QF multiple times and asking the questions, eventually you'll get your answers. Getting these answers from QF probably harder than giving birth, dare I say.

And obviously I assume given the duration, it crossed a membership year?

Yes, we got parental hold 2 month before the end of anniversary for her QF year and I was hoping sc don't reset so we can build up her status, and that is exactly what happened.
So we started the new QF year with a healthy sc points balance.

Status credits do not reset until the hold ends.

Thanks very much @blackcat20 & @ChrisW. for your constructive and factual input that’s how I read it all as well.

I think the slight complication in this case is due to the other generous covid status bonus / extensions etc it’s cast some doubt on the actual dates… but I think they will be fine.

Does anyone know if taking LSL for 6 months (alongside the partner who is actually on parental leave) would qualify for status hold? The way it's worded on the website seems to imply that only explicit parental leave would qualify.

It would depend how the letter from your employer is worded. I'll PM you.
