Status levels without eligible Sectors expiry / Claim Missing Points/SC

Hi all,

Fairly new to the whole SC with Velocity and just has a couple of questions around status credit, expiry on them and also claiming missing points/SC. I want to make sure i am understanding it correctly.

Scenario is as follows

Flew AirNZ Mel>AKL>IAH, premium economy and my wife was credited with 360 SC which is all good, however i was not credited with anything. I have a feeling that it has taken my AirNZ airpoints number instead of my Velocity number. Is there a way i can claim these missing status credits/points so i can get them as Velocity instead of Airpoints?

2nd question is around SC.
Obviously wife earnt 360 SC which would normally bring us to Silver, however we have not made the eligible Virgin sector flights to qualify so remain at RED level. Do the SC still expire after 12 months of does that rule only trigger once a change of status levels has happened?

i hope i have explained that last one properly, tried to explain it as best i could.

If anyone can shed some light that would be appreciated.

Hi there!

Firstly, you might want to check whether your ANZ account did receive the SC's. If not you'll be eligible for a missing points claim which is super easy process.

Secondly, as you're probably aware, to reach silver status you must complete two eligible sectors with VA (in addition to attaining 250 SC's). The SC's will expire 12 months from when they were earned regardless of your status, though FF points will remain.

Hopefully that has cleared it up for you.

Sectors must be flown by the primary account holder. You need to take a short flight you will get Gold quite easily.

I would also suggest you check your ANZ account to see what was credited.

thanks for the super quick reply did not expect a response so quick!. Unfortunately yes ANZ have credited me with airpoints and SC, is there a way to reverse this or am i out of luck?

As for the SC question, you have answered it perfectly, clarifies what i was after they expire after 12 months regardless of if you have triggered a move into a new level.

once you Aquire the 2 qualifing sectors, and then your status changes to silver, that's when your qualifing date resets.
Ie, you made the 270 sc in Jan , and you make the 2 VA sectors in April, your 12 months of silver status begin then.

That make sense also, so you are saying once the eligible sectors are flown that's when the status level upgrade starts and lasts for the full 12 months?
Using similar example to what you used..

If I earn 720 SC in January, make the eligible sectors in October , status level will upgrade and that's when 12 months starts of that level.

However my dilemma is, once January hits again will my status drop back down because 12 months has passed from when I originally earnd the 720 SC?

This is correct. When you attain your status, you'll have 12 months with that status unless you reach the minimum amount of required SC's for the next status level.

You would need to get Velocity to send a request a AirNZ that the SC's/Points be removed from you AirNZ account and approval for them to post to your Velocity account.

Its not impossible but it is difficult and you may get the 'it cannot be reversed story from velocity when you call them' - emailing them may actually be a better idea.

I would remind them that it is an error as you provided your Velocity card at checkin and thats where you expected to the points/SCs to post, thus pointing out that it was the agents error at checkin and not yours.

I have now as requested by velocity team file a retro claim via email attaching the Airnz email as well as the itinerary so they could process from their end(This was on Friday). Still no sign of points/sc so will probably give it a couple more days before calling Velocity to get an update.

That's a great result.

It's not unusual for the points to take a week to credit.

ok so looks like we have done it! Virgin have now processed all the missing points claims and i have now been credited points and SC for all my flights. Again thanks for all the help. Also credit to Velocity team who didn't make a fuss about it or decline the claims especially since they initially went to AirNZ airpoints.

Ok now for another SC question

Long story short we are planning to go to Europe September 2017 and want to make full use of the benefits of GOLD status.

I'm a bit slow so here goes...

Currently i have 720 SC but no eligible flight sectors flown. Based on previous replies I get that once we do fly those we activate GOLD and GOLD is valid for 12 months, so this would mean to make the most of this we should take these eligible flight sectors in October/November that way when we go away in September we will still be GOLD.

What happens if I fly 2 sectors and activate SILVER status say in June 2016 and 12 months SILVER status would begin. Then in October fly the next 2 sectors to activate GOLD, will a new 12 months start with GOLD status from October? or will the review date so to speak remain June in line when we first activated silver.

Obviously we want to be GOLD when we head off to Europe so if that means taking all 4 sectors in October/November id rather that, than run the risk of GOLD expiring before we go.

As you can see all new to this, and no doubt will be here to ask more question when it comes time to book the flights to Europe for our 10 year wedding anniversary!

We are in the same position as you, 510 status with silver benefits and doing a status (sector) run next week before the credits expire to get the 4 sectors for gold.

So, Silver will activate after 2 VA sectors flown, valid for 12 months, then when your next 2 VA sectors are flown, Silver disappears and Gold status will be valid for the next 12 months and usually another month they take to review the status level. (you get to keep 2 free lounge entries of silver status for a guest remember)

That would work no problems, just make sure your status credits haven't started to expire by then. But by the sounds of it you have only recently received them so you should be fine.

Again a huge thanks for the replies and help. At least I know we have 2 options available in getting and keeping gold.
Next step start looking at when reward availability opens for September 2017. Lets hope with a bit of luck and planets aligning that seats will be available.

The flights we took were in late Jan, so should work out all good in terms of expiring SC.

Once you hit Gold & Platinum expiring SC don't matter. I currently have 580SC but still require 490 to requalify for platinum.
