Status matching by Virgin Australia

Maybe a status match wouldn't be the best way to go as they did it last year, but if they were to do a status challenge (à la Delta medallion challenge) where you'd get a number of status credits that you had to earn in a given period of time (perhaps a couple of months) that would be cool. I'd certainly be open to trying it again, my last DJ experience was not, as Her Majesty would say, an experience with which I reflect upon with undiluted pleasure. Everyone deserves chance #2.

Agreed. I've sat my cough on Virgin flights earning meazly 10 or 20 sc's at a time to get to gold and not once have I received a single offer that acknowledges my loyalty.

I don't even know why I bother.

My contention is that the seats are full of those people who are being enticed with offers. Also the thing is VA are expanding their fleet and the number of seats they need to fill. So they need to make those people stick to fill the extra seats they are putting out.
Is what Virgin is doing really any different to what Qantas has been doing :?:

Some people have had no assistance and others have had numerous offers.

No, probably not, maybe Virgin offers are to a boarder range of people. Virgin's financial situation seems to have improved. They are just try to keep that. And qantas are also trying to stop the leakage.

LOL thats actually quite amusing.

Thanks Pu Koh

Yes, QF silver. I am at the point of needing to renew QF lounge. If VA status matched QF, I'd join their lounge instead of QF, avoiding the bronze VA lounge joining fee. I also told VA I'd join their lounge and move all my flying to them, but they declined to make the match. If VA seemed likely to offer a general match as per last year, I would just wait for that to happen, then join their lounge.

If you are already a member of the Qantas Club, then wouldn't you just pay the renewal fee for QF and thus no joining fee would apply? Also as others have said, I'd just do some more flying rather than pay for lounge membership.. e.g that $330 a year is a lot of beers / coffee's etc from airport cafe's before the relatively small number of flights you are doing at silver.. more so if you include the joining fee..
