I flew SYD to LAX yesterday as a WG (Thanks to the Orbitz special deal from a few months ago!). I haven't flown this route before but was interested by the fact that prior to the meal services one of the FAs approached me by name to check on my meal preferences, I noted a few others experiencing the same who then later had their meals delivered personally prior to the trolley. The FA apparently forgot to bring me mine (both meals!) and was apologetic (both times!). I wasn't expecting an early meal so wasn't really fussed, but my question is: is this now part of the status service for long haul flights? If so, it's a nice touch if the FAs remember to follow through on it!

Yep, have had that on all my Aus-Lax flights, both as SG and WP. This also applies to those that are travelling with you, even on separate PNRs.
The only downside to this is, that you're stuck with the food tray until they bring pass to bins to clear all pax rubbish.
