Hi all,

I'm about to make SG for the first time and will be flying again a few days later. How long does it usually take for recognition and then the new card to be sent out?

I'm in metro Melb so postage shouldn't take longer than 1-2 days.

And the second question – what should I be looking forward to/making the most of once it comes through?

You'll have the flights posted within the usual time frame to get you over the line to SG. Then the day or 2 after that, you'll have your daily status review then the system will show you as SG.

The card will take anywhere from 7-14 days after that to arrive. In the meantime, the system should have you as SG. Take a screenshot of the screen & the welcome to SG email when you get it as proof. If you are traveling domestic, that should be enough for SG benefits until the card arrives.

Internationally (US at least in my current experience), it is best to have the correct coloured card. Even then, be prepared for the "Velo-WHAT?" attitude especially if you have the Global Wallet.

I use (and love) the lounges & the priority things (check-in, security where available, boarding & luggage). I'm sure other threads & AFFers experience re car hire & accommodation benefits will be useful - I don't use them.

I've had zero questions at any DL lounge i've been to. They've looked, seen the Global Wallet card and commented on it being new and not having seen many, but was warmly welcomed in.

Yup, the card with Global Wallet is asking for trouble when it comes to lounge access overseas -- and besides, for international txns you should be withdrawing cash from a Citibank Plus account and purchasing things with a 28degrees card ;)

There you go, I had the opposite experience .. which is why I chose to get a plain card without Global Wallet on renewal. YMMV I guess..!

The lounges here haven't been the issue here but check-in.
