Hi. My status review/anniversary date is 15 January. I am gold, so to retain gold I need to have 400 SC.
I currently have 380, and no plans for further travel between now and then. Is it possible they would extend the status by a year if I fall short by 20 points?

probably won't get leeway. but you can earn status credit using flybuys and shopping at coles. With double points available at the moment you could get 20pts..

If status is valuable for your personal circumstance, why not do a short trip inter/intra state? Based on where you are, you may be able to find some fares with connections that can easily net 20 SC by 15/01

So is this 4 SC for every $100 spent ?
Will it work if I buy gift vouchers ?

What has people's experience been with the timeliness of posting of the SCs from flybuys ? I've not used it at all (my mistake, as I shop at Coles).

They would probably not appear by 15th Jan but you would have case with Virgin as they are credits from 31st December and you could push that point with them.
Otherwise to be safe take a short trip before 15th Jan.

Personally, I would take a return flight.
FB is good, but as you and the others have seen mentioned, it just takes the chance that the FB transfer might take too long.
If you book now, for a month in advance, fares might be $159 x 2 = $318 for short hops.
Pricey? Yes, but its the only way to guarantee a fast earn.
Plus as SG. you have lounge access, so that's a plus in itself.

My experience is they post up to three weeks into the next month BUT the activity date is always set to the last day of the month in which they were earned.

So any that post in January for December spend will be dated 31st December, irrespective of when in January they actually post,.

If you shop at Coles you definitely should register for Flybuys. The status credits and bonus Velocity points really add uo!
