Hi all. In similar situation here but based in CBR currently. Grateful any advice on best dom run these days from here. Also looking at a MH run ex DPS but can't find any discount J seats for CMB or BKK rtn etc. Flexible with timing. Cheers tropic

Qantas club membership for a year may be cheaper than an SC run and suit you better? Depends on your flying situation...

Hi all,

I'm 105SC short of Gold, ending on 31st July. Qantas has offered 80k point to retain Gold or, alternately, I was going to use a double status points PNR to do a status run.

What do you guys think? I'm in Perth and can only do a domestic run at this stage as my passport is near expiry. I'm guessing 80k points is worth roughly $800. What flights can I take from Perth to do a run and is it worth it?

Thanks
If your current SC balance is 495 (assuming target of 600 minus the 105 you are short) then you can select 50 SC as the loyalty bonus when you pass 500 SC. So you actually only need an additional 55 SC. Maybe make it fun with a weekend in Singapore if you get your passport in time.

Was in similar position and based in Perth. Managed to do a flight that got me over 500 SCs with normal SCs then grabbed the loyalty bonus. The same flight was eligible for double status credits but no matter what I tried, Qantas refused to process this and wouldn’t award the extra SCs - I needed to wait 6-8 weeks after the flight! As a result, I ended up 20 SCs short, have been downgraded to silver for last 5 weeks but hoping to see ‘gold’ in a couple of weeks when the double SCs should be credited.

How Could 80k points be worth Gold Status? I would suggest a quick European trip on the QF emirates flights use points and pay. Do not do Qatar as you will not get points or status credits on the low fairs but all QF sale tickets on EK metal give you both points and SC. A few days in sunny Europe a few hundred dollars and the points and you will earn about 20k points as well.

Not sure how this would work.

eg Sale PER-PRG by Jul-31 is still roughly $1800 return on EK with QF codeshares. P+P? Use the 80,000 as above, still costs you roughly AUD1300.

How is this better than just outright purchase of SG at 80,000 points? jasetheace, I'm obviously missing something, can you please explain the maths.

Regards,

BD

Yep this is definitely something worth considering as an alternative, but I'm gunning for my LTG and looking at doing lots of flying over next 12 months. Looking at getting cheapest flight into asia (DPS, HKG or KUL) then doing MH run from there. Left it a bit late I know but as usual, life gets in the way of the greatest plans...

I have found DPS-LGK is the sweet spot for me in terms of a status run.

Do the status run! As others have pointed out, you'd only need 55SC really if you factor in the loyalty bonus.

You'll get to keep the 80k points, grow your lifetime SC balance and earn some points to boot!
