Background: A changed work situation means I'm doing a lot less flying on QF in this second half of the year through to Feb 2013, but from Feb things will pick up again. The problem is that my renewal month is January and I'm currently 900 (!) SCs short of retaining Platinum. If I wasn't going to be back doing a lot of flying next year I'd just accept a 'soft landing' to Gold. But as it happens I will be in the USA in the middle of this month and I have engineered a few days off which gives me the chance to do an AA status run. I already have the necessary number of 'squiggle' flights on QF metal.

Aim: 900 SCs as this will keep me at Platinum. However, if the routing earns an extra 100 SCs that will let me pick up another 8,000 points loyalty bonus. That extra 100 SCs is not a 'must have' but if it happens well that's nice.

Constraints: the run should ideally start from SFO on Thursday 13 September, although Friday 14 September is also okay, and end at LAX on Monday 17 September, in time for me to catch QF back to Sydney. But I have enough United points to take one flight either side, ie for positioning if the run needs to start at LAS for example, or to get me to LAX if the run ends at SFO or SEA or JFK for example.

Other factors: I'm happy to do stopovers in any interesting city, the schedule doesn't have to be so tight that it has me flying almost non-stop for 3-4 days! I'm after a route that is as detailed as possible and easily bookable because I have tried to work this out myself using some of the routes outlined here and with the aid of Serfty's very good instructions on AA status runs, but to be honest I am out of my depth and it will probably take me a day to do what the 'experts' here can do in a half hour and they will enjoy it too!

Over to you guys, dazzle me with your point-savvy brilliance!
