It looks like I'm going to be falling about 70,000 points short of requalifying for Qantas Points Club Plus.

My requalifying date is 30th of September.

Wondering whether anyone can suggest how I can make up the shortfall?
I could apply for a credit card - but will the bonus points be able to make it in time?

Yes. If you have $3k of spend lined up, I can wholeheartedly recommend the NAB Signature. If you spend before the first statement is generated you should get your points within a week, you can then close the card and get the whole annual fee refunded.

Another option is to buy quite a lot of wine...

Are you with Everyday Rewards?
I would look at the BUPA family health insurance, Pet Culture and other affiliated stores - there was a chemist too... BUPA might not make it in time but the others posted very quickly. Also look at Qantas Shopping mall and card offers - some of those can be very generous.

Wow. Instantly got just the answer I needed! Thanks so much, applying now (Now wishing I didn't do all those b2bpay payments just to get 0.5 points per dollar!!!)

QF wine bonus points packages can be rather helpful. The side benefit of alcohol seems to be more and more handy these days (sadly)

but... is it really worth it to you I wonder? I'm not assuming.. but asking for something to consider the cost/benefit of PCP....

Speaking of Qantas Wine, it's worthwhile contacting the Qantas "wine advisor"s - the qantas wine sales team rings me up every six months trying to coax me to buy more wine with generous discounts and bonus points.

Playing this game right now myself. Not sure if I'll be in a position to take out another CC, project to be about 80k short.

Don't know if $800 of woolies pesos could be collected in time, and would need to ensure the 1000 QF points are redeemed at <1c/p in order to break even compared to $10 off at woolworths (most likely will be if I choose flights, but it would be a direct loss of about 50% if one subsequently cashed out via the qantas store).

Have recently done the hearing test for 2000 points from Audika :)

No longer drink or purchase wine though so that option is off the table; but will gladly follow the thread in case any other ideas come up.

Agree with this one.
I was resigned to missing Points Club +, about 25k points short with 3 weeks left.
Got the NAB Signature as I was now out of the exclusion period, so another churn to kick off, not at all expecting the points to land in time.
Spent the $3k, and a week later, the 100k points landed.
Happy days....(statement now received so cant avoid the annual fee...but more points in the bank and Points Club+ unexpectedly achieved)

I have had to resort to this tactic on occassion and I can confidently report sucessful outcomes.
I did an “insurance” purchase of 10,000 points and complementary case of wine a month ago but I’m now on track to complete my PC year this month with an excess of 165k points… (already got the email confirming another PC year obviously). I may have taste tested most of the wine already also…🤫

qantas wine is an easy way to earn (by) points

But timing is everything. They have some really good wine/bonus points options but not all the time and not necessarily the same things.

If desperate, they usually have one off mixed dozens around the $20+ per bottle mark with 10k points but the wines can be hit and miss.

True, but if the wines are not so great they can make great gifts to associates and for taking to dinner parties etc :D

the other good thing with QF wine is that the points usually post quickly. In fact in my experience they usually post when the shipment is dispatched (I assume because at that point a cancel is problematic). Anyway I've always had the points post by the time the wine shows up. It's a fairly reliable method to get some points, and those 10k-20k bonus points promos, while not always on or of the best quality, can definitely aid in reaching a goal. And if one misses out well there's something to drown your sorrows with :D

True, but I do like to have my cake and eat it! Or drink it in this (wine) case… 😀

Funny thing with points posting. As I mentioned a few posts ago, I’ve received the points before the wine arrived (and for me, the wine arrives pretty quickly. Next day is my PB!) but I’ve also had points a week or so after the wine but never more than 14 days.

If you have plenty of points in the bank already and just need more to achieve PC+, then consider buying the Qantas Wines with high bonus points offers and pay with points you have already earned. The bonus points are still earned and count towards annual points earning. I have sometimes used a combination points+pay, spending the earned bonus points and reducing the $$$ spend to something quite low. Last purchase earned me 23,000 points and I paid $250.80 + 22.350 points, making the bottles (case of 6) $41.80 each which normally sell for around $75 each, plus got me 23K closer to PC+.
