Hi folks. Hoping someone may have some experience with stopover planning.

looking at doing a family trip sydney to Copenhagen then overland to Paris flying Paris to sydney

it seems that breaking the trip into two legs is expensive or points intensive. Any insight into trying to do something like a syd - Paris return with an included stop over in copenhagen. Is such a thing doable??

any other out of the box $/points savers welcome

many thanks
(2adults/2 kids)

Ideally qantas as we have 260 k points.

Will not go far as you have 2 adults and 2 kids = 4 as far as points are concerned.

It is 140K per person return. Taxes and charges will be say $800 odd.
You could earn another 20K in points and redeem for 2 and buy for 2. However you will havea lot less hassles and most likely geta better deal by buying all 4.

At present there are some very cheap tickets that you can buy Europe return. I would suggest buying 4 tickets on one deals of these and not be focused on just Qantas.

Keep your FF points for another time when you have more, or are happy to use ona cheaper point cost flight like Asia.

I mainly play in the VA universe but a lot of what I'm about to say will also apply with QF - I'll stand open to others who use QF & partners more than I will.

QF will most likely try to funnel you through Dubai for either Copenhagen or Paris. I would choose one or the other as your main destination that you fly in/out of. During a quick look at the QF website, it suggests a flight Australia - Dubai on either QF or EK & then an EK flight to either destination. If you want to go somewhere else, you have a range of options once you get into Europe. If you can, try to avoid transiting in London if you aren't going there.

Whichever way you decide, you won't be going on QF metal the entire way if that is important to you.

For me personally, I've been to both & I'd much rather fly into & stay in Copenhagen compared to Paris.

Pity there have been a bunch of points bonus offers this month across several different frequent flyer programs, you might have been able to use your QFF points to fly your family over there and then buy miles/points in some of these other programs and fly them back, but its getting pretty close to the end of the month now to take advantage of them...

Think about Thai on a multi-city booking withat least " Q" restricted Economy far and enrol in Aegean beforehand. You could get towards gold star alliance quickly, although i haven't done the maths, and also have stopover in BKK.
