Strategy to obtain US Amex

how long takes for the notrisation request email to come thru?

immediately once the interview with a live agent completed. They will make a video call and asking you some questions, and you have to sign the documents in front of them, it was fun.

I have just done it with the agent 3 hours ago. They will send the completed notary to Amex. Called amex just now they still didn't see anything.

I just decided to take the plunge as I was shown an offer of 45K MR (usual sign up is 30K). I got the following message:
Thanks, albyd. We've received your application, but we can't give you a decision right now.

We'll process your application as soon as possible and send you a decision within 14 days.
While we're reviewing your application, please don't submit another application for the American Express® Green Card.

I received an email to the same effect as well.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this going to be resolved with an approval? My FICO is in the high 700s but don't have a SSN. Have an appointment in a few weeks at the US consulate to "Notarize" my license so I can send it across to the IRS to get an ITIN. Starting to wonder whether I should've waited until I got my ITIN. Logging in via my existing Amex US login for the 'easy' application reduced my sign up bonus to 30K MR.
May I ask when you need to get an ITIN? how it can help with credit card application?

Outside of Amex, my expectation is that a SSN (for which an ITIN is a proxy) will be compulsory to have a shot at getting an applications approved.

Also wanted to open a non credit account with Amex and they would not budge on the SSN requirement as they are ‘another business’ To the credit card department.

Spazmos, thanks for that. Some years ago I had some transactions of USA stocks. It seems like a similar process with the wire transfer, paying from Oz. I wasn’t sure whether it was even possible to pay the AMEX card by wire transfer. The important thing being is to be able to pay it from Australia.

This is the direction that I’m going: Following information provided by Jasonfungsing, yourself and others, I have made a start in the process to obtain the Aspire card. So, in the past few days, the setup of MyUS.com account and setting delivery preferences is complete, as is the payment method. The Textnow (permanent) number has been tested for text and voice to the USA/AUS and the TorFX account is ready to go.

I have a test envelope on its way to the MyUS.com suite so will see if it’s gets through or is rejected by not being a parcel. I will wait on that to see whether a small parcel should be tested (perhaps just buy something in the US). I have nominated UPS (Worldwide Saver), initially, for shipping to see how that works out.

So, once I can see that it is all working as it should I will then apply on-line for the Aspire through Global Transfer, using some great advice that you have provided for that process.

In the end, if it succeeds it will be due to the information that has been provided in this thread, so thanks again.

I intend to come back with a progress report when it is all finished, hopefully within a few weeks.

Hi DC3, which textnow plan did you sign up? Is it the Basic FREE? Thanks.

Yes, but I then upgraded the plan so as to keep the same phone number.

My understanding (if I got it right) is that in order to keep the same number, I would need to use it daily. That would not have really worked for me.

Just sent off my "Notarized" passport - they gave me the W7 at the Consulate. Now to wait. How long does it usually take to receive?

Also, Amex reckon they posted my new Green Card to MyUS address on November 16, been 10 days and hasn't arrived yet. I had a problem receiving my SPG card as they didn't print the suite # on it but managed to retrieve it. Have checked a few times with MyUS Chat and they have no record of receiving anything - even gave them the tracking number. Do I need to ask Amex to re-issue the card to my Australian address? I want to start spending to get to my sign up bonus target but can't do so until I have the card.

It took a bit over 2 months for me from the date I sent (took around 7 days to arrive in the US using regular post). I think I was supposed to get a copy of my passport back as they normally send 2 separate mails back but only ITIN letter showed up.

yes, you can ask amex send the card directly to AUS address. Also, it's possible to add the card to apple pay before the physical card arrived.

Is that dependent on the verification text from Amex getting through to TextNow as it wasn't with the other VOIP mobile service I was using at the time?

I'm tempted to do this to get the card. I've actually been using it for some USD purchases today.

I have different experiences with this actually. They need to verify your identity before they can send a card to an address not listed in your amex profile.

Sometimes when I call, on amex side, the caller ID shows my US number which registered with amex, so they just need my AUS address and send it to me. However, there are times that the caller ID on their side does not show my US number, so they need me to hang up and they call me on the US number I have registered with them so that they know they are speaking to me.

How do you go? Did they call you back? My account has just restricted and their global fraud team asked me to do the same, get the ID notarized with notarycam and still waiting for my account back to normal.

Just wondering which 7 US cards have you signed up. I can't justify the costs of US cards except Hilton Aspire and Marriott Brilliant.

Thought I'd report back. Finally got my Green Card. Had issued to my US address but never arrived. I called last weekend and let them know I'm currently in Australia and they cancelled it and sent it to me by DHL. Got it yesterday. Looking forward to taking it for a whirl today at breakfast :) I'll keep a closer eye on the FX conversion now too.

IS it beneficial to have an Aussie Amex when applying for the US one ? Are they processed as transfers ? I was thinking of cancelling my amexes for the purpose of refinancing my mortgage .

It will be easier to have amex au card with GT process. no issue or no questions ask sometimes. if you don't have you need ssn i believe to get the us card.

For those who are making payments via FX transfers, how did you go about doing that? I searched but couldn't find their bank details (although the Europe Amex seems to list them) and when I tried calling them, they said you can't pay via wire transfer and the only payment method is via checking account?
I don't have a US bank account so can only pay via international transfer...
