Strategy to obtain US Amex

Woke up this morning to the below, not able to view the decision as I don't have an SSN to input and every number I try gives the same automated message saying the computers are down.. any suggestions?
Did you try 877-399-3083?

Try to get an operator on the line any way you can (eg say 'operator' or 'agent' at the voice prompt). If that's not at all possible, you may just have to wait a few days.

Applied yesterday and got a 'conditionally approved so give us a call' however every number I tried I was met with "the computer system needed to answer your questions is currently not available". Cool, it was Sunday night, I'll try again today.

This usually means decline or a verification of some sort. Otherwise you usually get an approval email
Try again tomorrow or something.
Or maybe call their number and talk to a human (from GT perhaps?) and explain your situation

So I got through via the new card app number (877-239-3491) which was about the 7th number I tried, they took my app number and put me through to GT who verbally confirmed my address and said I was approved and the card is on its way!

I asked for a tracking number but she said there wasn't one available yet, I'm a little worried about MyUS not finding it as the suite number won't be on there, I assume if I call up in a few days they can provide the number to me?

Thank you all so much for all your help!!

If it was sent via a traceable USPS or DHL or something, then yes. Otherwise it wouldn't show a tracking number.

Logged in and it's with FedEx, looks like a tracking number will appear once sent but I can also see that they've defs left off the suite number

Wait the 10 days, call Amex back to say you're travelling overseas and would like a replacement card sent to another address. It will reach you quicker than MyUS forwarding (and you'll save $30-40)

Has anyone paid for a Qantas Hotels booking using a US Amex which has a multiplier for airline spend?

I recently made a booking on my Aus Amex, and afterwards noticed in my Excel statement that it was classified as Travel & Transport - Airline. It even had a 081 'ticket number' where the Xs were my Qantas Hotels reference.

If this works the way I think it might, it could be a good way to generate some serious points (e.g. 3x QFF + 7x Hilton) if you are booking properties that don't participate in loyalty programs, or if you don't need the status nights/elite benefits.

Hey everyone,

Has anyone here used one of those US secured credit cards or credit builder loans/debit cards to build up their American credit score ?

I just applied for an ITIN, and i am hoping to get one of the Chase credit cards in the future. I was just wondering if it is a good idea to use the ITIN to apply for a credit builder loan or secured credit card. (I have the Hilton Aspire card , but no ITIN attached to it)

Once you have a FICO score with Amex it would be easier to apply for a second Amex US card and provide your ITIN. In the US one component of the credit score is the age of your credit cards, so having your Hilton Aspire showing up in your credit report by adding the ITIN would give you more bang for your buck. Also, I am not sure whether it's possible to get a secured credit card without applying physically in person.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. That would make sense.
Can you include the ITIN if you use the GT route to apply for the second AMEX card ?

As for the secured card, yes you are right. I will have to visit the US in the near future to open a checking account and a credit card.

US bank and Capital One will give you a secure card with your ITIN.
But since you already have an AmEx card, I'd wait and let it age, once you get your ITIN, you can get a second card with AmEx using that ITIN.
And technically, you don't need an ITIN or SSN to establish credit in the US. A SSN/ITIN is used to identify your credit profile, there are other info that creditors use to report your credit, like your name, DoB, address etc.

Thank you for the quick and helpful reply.
Can you include your ITIN when using the GT route for the second time ?
Or it is better to apply for the second AMEX card in another way ?

You can include it, if you wanna apply for your second AmEx outside of the GT, you should wait until you have a FICO score (should be available in AmEx portal under Fico Score), otherwise you'd likely get declined (I have)

And second card using GT is not actually allowed as per AmEx. But I have seen many DPs where people got their second card using GT too.
If you don't wanna wait till you have a FICO, then that's your option and you can put your ITIN number on the application too

Many thanks for the reply.
I think i will wait for my FICO score to appear then. (Should appear in 2 months time )
I assume you enter the ITIN under the SSN field when you apply for the second AMEX card ?

Hi everyone,
I would like to apply for the AMEX Green card sometime next year, after i get my ITIN.
Since it is a charge card, would it help much in building up my credit score ?

The payment history and the account aging will, it doesn't help with your credit utilisation though since there is no credit limit on a charge card.

This new process of qualifying is longer but easier to maintain . and I believe you have been advised correctly . The previous qualification process was quicker but you needed to deposit $200k and it took a few days .
Since I had already qualified I only need to deposit $9 k every month .
The 200k that is now 150k, does that need to stay in the account for long or can I call to get premier then transfer it out straight away?

Qualify and then transfer out . Although your rm may notice after a fe months and discuss or even if u go to branch . But your purpose of qualifying and getting reciprocal overseas will have been served
