Strategy to obtain US Amex

Managed to open the C1 checking account just fine. Did it online, then they wanted me to call and gave them all my details and a copy of Oz passport for verification
So, I was approved today for a Capital One checking account, having a similar experience as you’ve described. Now to look into non-Amex credit cards from other issuers I guess. I already have several from Amex.

When I am trying to do the Credit Card application form it won't let me use a MyUS address or PO Box, anyone know any workarounds and what can work?

… need a residential address to move forward on the application.

Most likely a rejection by a computer algorithm. And it appears to be different for checking account and for a credit card application from your experience.

I’ve read elsewhere that ‘any physical/residential address’ can work, including hotels, boarding houses, hostels, homeless shelters, and to have a different mailing address (MyUS) if given that option.

I haven’t quite got there yet, but does the Capital One cc application allow for a seperate mailing address?

They are wanting a residential address not a mail forwarding address. I'll try a few alternatives and see how I go.

The Capital One cc application only allows you to input the residential address. But if your application is successful, you are allowed to put in a mailing address.

Has anyone here used their AMEX Aspire card to make a Hilton hotel booking ? If so, did the booking / payment trigger any fraud warnings ? I have the Aspire card for just over 12 months, and so far have only used it for donations to US based charities and buying Hilton points. I am thinking of booking a Conrad Bangkok stay with the Aspire card, but hesitating a bit as i am worried about triggering the AMEX fraud dept.

Used it for Hilton stays in AU, NZ and the US this year and no fraud warnings at all. Granted they weren't extended stays.

Have used it often at Hilton’s . No issues .

Has anyone received an email from Amex about MyUS address. Seems they can’t send mail and are asking me to update it.
Thinking I may need to look at another mail service to change address to. Have seen other mention planet express
Any other options ?

Yes, but it was about a letter that had been RTS by MyUS, causing Amex to contact me. I chose to ignore it and heard no more.

Most of my USPS-delivered letters from Amex have been accepted at MyUS but there’s always a risk of RTS with ordinary mail, as it’s meant to be “parcels/ packages” unless you have the “mail” option (which is no longer available to new customers I gather)

Courier-delivered mail to MyUS is not an issue, including from Amex. It’s not that Amex can’t “send” mail, it’s that it may not be accepted at MyUS, and therefore RTS (and possibly drawing unwanted attention)

Exactly my thoughts - I had the original card sent and then claimed as lost and they resent one via DHL to me - I told them to destroy the original card once it turned up - assuming they sent something back to Amex saying it was not deliverable - thanks - will ignore and hope for the best - have online statements turned on so assuming not much will need to go via USPS

Planet Express and amex don't mix well because of the lack of suite details in amex correspondence. I'm yet to receive anything there successfully because of this.

Must be a recent update by AMEX sending cards with address not including line 2 (which I assume you're putting your suite/box no). Previous cards sent to me included my actual suite/box detail itself and got sent just fine. Albeit I am talking about a non-Planet Express mail forwarder so ymmv

For only 150K miles. Terrible return on spend. A dud product imo.
And they nerfed the $300 statement credit on Cap 1 Travel. They now deduct it as a coupon from your purchase so you don't earn points on that first $300 and it doesn't count for minimum spend. For me anyways it's hard enough to spend that much on 1 hotel as I tend to go for one night stays in cheaper places. I am struggling to use the $50 Qantas Hotels voucher because I have to spend minimum $150 but finally used it in LAX.

I'm thinking twice now about Cap 1 Venture vs Venture X vs Citi Premier. I want TK miles. Assuming I can get approved eventually for any of the 3, it's Citi's 3 x on supermarkets and 10x on hotels and car rentals for a limited time. Venture X's attraction was the ability to offset the annual fee with statememt credits, Priority Pass and 10k anniversary bonus. Venture gives 75k miles vs Citi's 60k at present.

Chase is end game for 2 cards a year until I leave the miles and points game. Eventually other cards will be cancelled.
