Strategy to obtain US Amex

used mine at the Hilton Queenstown between 26/12-31/12. The charge went through on 31/12 on my Amex statement so hopefully that is good for the $250 credit last year.

One possible loophole that could work is if you stay at a one of the eligble resorts and ask the reception/reservation to make a prepayment for say 1-2 nights accommodation so you get the credit and pay the balance on check out to get the other bi-annual credit. In theory this should work but YMMV.

Yep that's what I've done for Hilton QT as well to use my $250 in 2023 for 2024.

I have applied Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card and asking to verify billing address with bank statement or any utility bill (telephone bill or wifi bill..), if anyone had same experience or any solution please?

Looks like we need a US bank statement to get the US card. Both HSBC Premier and Wise, the 2 suggested ways to get a US bank account remotely, are asking to do a 3d face scan selfie to open an account. Not going to do that. Are there any other ways to open a US bank account without travelling to the US?

For those with chase cards, has anyone used their myUS address as their residential address? I am seriously planning on going to the US to open up a bunch of new checking accounts with all banks, but don't want to try if it will be an instant fail. I get all my mail sent to my TX mail forwarding company

Plan to show: passport, copy of ITIN letter, HSBC and Amex checking statement with TX or myUS address, and Aussie license.

Do you think I would need to take anything else? I don't have a good enough friend in the US whose address I could use :(

Downgraded my Hilton Aspire to a free card in early 2023. My Diamond status that was attached to the card has just renewed for another year lol.

I want to get an ITIN but do not have a Passport, can I use Australian Drivers Licence as proof of identity to get an ITIN and is that enough?

Has anyone managed to get an ITIN with Drivers Licence instead of a Passport?

Yes it's possible but you need an accompanying document to prove "foreign status", which can be rather complex - see list of acceptable documents on page 4 of the PDF: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw7.pdf

You'll likely also have issues getting a certified copy of those documents that complies with IRS requirements, so would either have to mail original documents to the IRS or go through an acceptance agent.

One of those documents that prove both "foreign status" and "identity" is "National identification card". Australia does not have a formal National identification card, instead uses the drivers licence as one. Any possibility to argue that the Australian Driver Licence is equivalent of a National identification card that proves foreign status?

Good result. May I ask why you downgraded that card instead of just cancelling? Was it your first US card and you wanted to keep file open for credit history?

Yes I have an ITIN (I'll update the post)
Hi, my DP: C1 let me use myUS to sign up to checking account but called it out as a mail forwarding address when I was trying to apply for the Venture Rewards card which I was planning to use as my daily non-AMEX driver.

They subsequently shut down my checking account - even though it had money in there - they didn't provide a reason other than they didn't want my business but I suspect they suspected Fraud and didn't want any part of it.

I'd avoid myUS if looking to set up with C1. Is there a mail forwarder which C1 accepts for CC apps?

I seem to recall that at one point you were still waiting for the proceeds from the checking account. Where did they end up sending that? Via cheque or to another account? I may end up in the same situation.

Just a DP. I had the same experience. They ended up closing my checking account and sent me a cheque even when they agreed to do a bank transfer. Having said that, the amount did include the sign-up bonus.
