Strategy to obtain US Amex

@nthd_nthd

Some also consider the Hilton Aspire a consistent keeper card as the benefits are good. As a tip, a card with a credit limit tends to get a FICO score faster than a charge card (e.g. gold card).

YMMV with a personal gold card within 1-3 months. Some have been approved and some have been declined. Rule of thumb is that don't apply until you get your FICO score but that's impossible to know now since Amex doesn't show it anymore. So you really just have a take a shot and be comfortable being declined.
I got plan for using Amex points rather than Hilton points. Could you please recommend a Credit card (Not a charge card) for us in Australia please that I can target to get my FICO as well

I'm not sure there are any worthwhile 0 AF cards that earn MR. Not sure if the blue card is a credit or charge card.

The reason for the Hilton card isn't about the points but the longevity of the card being a keeper card e.g. your oldest card on file. It has perks that most travellers will find useful. E.g. diamond status, free night, $200x2 resort credit.

You can also downgrade it later on to a 0 AF card and sock draw it.

after 6-7 months when Fico posted it was at 660 score
Speaking of a FICO score, can anyone explain how/why AMEX changed their index? I applied for the Marriott Bonvoy June 2023 and received a score in the 9000s after Sept 2023, but from Jan 2024, my score is now in the 700s.

AFAIK Amex no longer provides a score on the website. Where are you seeing your 700s score? FICO score is usually between 850-350

Actually they still do.
Firstly, type "Fico" under the search function (Where the magnifying glass icon is at the top of the page) after that, click on the first link you see (i think it is called "Check your Fico score summary").

No typo - see the attached screen shot of my score history. Edit: it says it's my Experian Score History

Looks like your credit file wasn't established until September, 3 months after your card opened. In Jan, enough data was available for the score to be created. May to Jan is about 8 months so that sounds about right. 9003 seems like a placeholder.

Where is that screenshot from?

I just checked my FICO score via my Amex account. Score is showing as 79x. I have an ITIN.

For anyone who likes IHG, Chase is out with a new offer on their personal card: 140K points + Diamond status until end of year.

I can't post the link due to a bug with AFF software. This link is not yet public. But it probably will become public soon. If you can't wait, DM and I'll find a way to share it with you.
