Strategy to obtain US Amex

I tried to submit a nova credit application on Amex for the Aspire. Was not asked for US address, told that "you did not tick the nova credit box" (I did) and that all I needed to do was ITIN+Passport+confirm you are not in the military.

Anyone been asked for this before? Especially the military one - using the "Search" function, I can't find any reference to Amex asking about military status.

I think saying you’re not in military just precludes you from receiving the annual fee waiver. But if you have an ITIN - get the CP565 and your passport uploaded and it should be an easy approval - I just did this for the Aspire

This is my first non-HSBC card, I didn't even think I had a file yet. That's why I wanted to use nova credit.

Anyway, everything been uploaded, no ETA given, crossing fingers for good news.

I’m pretty certain I don’t have a file yet either (or at least not much of one) - but I’ve done a GT for Surpass (August) then a separate application without ITIN for Gold (November) and Aspire in Jan (with ITIN)

Is there a reason you’re not doing a GT? (Assume maybe you don’t have an AU Amex?)

I haven't done any of those things! I'm not sure how I even have a chance at getting approved but I guess we'll see.

After you were asked to submit additional documents, how long did you need to wait? Do i need to call back after X days?

No matter how hard I try, can't get AU amex.

So Amex gave me $10k limit on my Surpass and only $3.7k on my Aspire. Does anyone know if its possible/easy to re-distribute the credit limit more evenly (or even swap completely as i doubt I’ll use the Surpass now I have the Aspire)
Don’t believe you can move limit across with Amex .

Update : could not move limit from my existing ink to have new ink application approved as the former is less then a year old .

I submitted the docs on Weds - got a bunch of calls overnight Sun to Mon - called back but they were closed! Phoned this morning and got the approval

So you guys are using Nova Credit Amex option as you have no history with Amex Australia and have been approved for a US Amex that way - interesting - my P2 has no Amex and cant get one approved at moment and this may be an option

I found the option in Account Services - but I get an error message. Maybe because i haven’t’ received the Aspire yet so I’ll be patient for now

No mine were from an existing Amex relationship (Which started with a GT). But that is indeed what pyrmadiforce is trying - so interesting to see how they go……

Are they known to ask from proof of US residence with a nova credit application as well ?

I really wonder how their algorythms work. It seems so random. When I was approved for the Surpass in August as my second card, I got a $2k limit and havent been able to raise it since. After that, request for limit increases denied and PUJ for Aspire and Biz Gold 200k referral offer, even though spending $1000s monthly and keeping balance low. Currently getting a 175k biz gold processed 🤞

It is a little odd. I now have Aspire ($10k), Surpass ($3.7k) and Gold (no limit but they ask me to pay down when i hit about $3-$4k a month. I currently have a $5k balance on the Aspire which no doubt isn’t helping - but I’m waiting for the $5k in the Business Checking account to get past Jan 19th for my 30k MR points and will then pay it down in full.

I’m tempted to try Biz gold next but I’m not sure how easy it will be to meet the $15k if they curtail my ability to spend easily with arbitrary limits

I've been able to hit the Surpass $15k free night in less than 3 months with my $2k limit primarily through MS, but it did require a bit of float from my savings to achieve this and it wasn't super easy. Personally, I have a massive tax bill coming up as well, so could prepay some of that in Q1 to meet the SUB.

I want to go for the Aspire too, but decided to postpone that for now, given that I am at 3/24 already with the HSBC card and I want to get at least 1 Chase card, and not get to 5/24 so that I can still apply for biz cards.

Good strategy - I’ve got myself to 4/24 which limits my Chase options - but I’m going to wait 6 more months to embark on Chase and be happy with what I have right now - plus will go Biz Ink first like someone here suggested and then try for CSP

I know nobody can give tax advice here - but if one were to declare US interest to the IRS with your ITIN should you also declare on AU return? I see the tax treaty should stop you paying tax twice - but seems like a big faff for a piddly amount of interest…..
