Strategy to obtain US Amex

I haven’t tried yet but did ask my RM at HSBC. Said they could facilitate US home purchase but would have to go through local HSBC application process for each country ie if I wanted to buy property in Australia, would need to apply to HSBC Australia. Can’t apply through a different country. Will just be referred so no getting around any unfavorable local lending regulations ..

Applied for the Amex Marriott Bonvoy for my wife (First Card using Amex Online and No SSN) got approved. The Online application asked to log into the OZ Amex to pull relevant information. Once that was done, all her details got pulled. After filling the mandatory areas of the form (Address, Mobile, Salary) her application was approved and requested her to create a new amex login. Once logged you can see the tracking history of the delivery. Delivered in 2 business days using UPS Next Day Air.
As BlackSultan suggested, My wife could not use my referral link since her application was a global transfer

Hey guys, where's the main post for citi-revolut method of paying for amex?
There's no one post that will cover everything that you would be looking for as many have contributed.
This can used as the start of the converstion though

Normally how long before you get a return call from HSBC about setting up a US account? I called HSBC international banking last week and they say they will get someone to call me about setting up an US account, but I still haven't heard anything.

Usually within the week . Depends on how busy they are

Got my T-mobile sim card from Amazon. Worked as expected. Took the seller about 2 hours to activate. Wifi calling works great. Outgoing text, outgoing and incoming calls appear to count againt the 30 min/sms. Receiving sms is free. Refill has $1.5 fee regardless of the amount. Need to do just $10 every 3 months. I used to do 3 months on 3 months off to save $$ as number used last 90 days if no toppup. Not sure if that has changed.

Got another GV number. Then I called T-mobile and changed the number (it says free once a year on the site) telling them I need a specific area code. Might be able to get another GV later.

Curious to know how long did it take for you to get your item? Did you use priority shipping. I ordered on the 8 Dec and chose priority shipping. The tracking shows the item has not been shipped. When I chatted with Amazon support, they said it will be delivered in normal post but the 27 Dec is worst case scenario. He gave me the postage credit voucher.

I ordered on Dec 5 (was still on backorder) and arrived Dec 17, priority shipping. Estimate was 14-17 and DHL put it on hold for a day as well. It came with other stuff I bought so I thought it would be longer.

I have been buying on Amazon US quite a bit and it looks like they might book specific flights or something based on orders they get. One time expedite shipping (cheaper) showed faster delivery than priority.

Today morning i got a estimated shipping for 23 Dec. using Fedex. They gave me a amazon voucher for the expedited shipping cost.

Just wanted some advice in relation to US card recommendations. Currently holding the Amex Qantas Business Platinum card. I’m looking for a US based card I can either transfer into Qantas or another One World partner. Decent points earn a priority and also ease of application process for Australians.

Amex US have 19 airline partners (can’t post a link as had to log in to see them) including Qantas. 1:1. If you’ve got a spend category which aligns with significant spend for you, pick the card which best suits your most frequent spend categories as many of those will be honored currently even with Aussie spend like travel. I use the US Green card as it works for me. Have a look at their site.

If you don’t spend enough in any bonus category to make the extra effort worth your while with the exchange rate where it is, probably not much to be gained from the extra admin as for general spend categories, you might only earn 0.76US MR point per $A spend which would be lower than you’re earning now. I’m sure there’s other ways to look at it but that’s how I look at it. YMMV. There may be other travel rewards partners which work better for you.

Hi there is a US Amex referral thread in this forum through which you may get an increase sign up bonus . Let me know if you want me to PM you a referral link . Any of the MR cards would allow you to transfer into qantas . The gold card currently has an increased sign up bonus .

Got Amex wireless credit from a t-mobile topup. Should've got the sim ages ago and used the SIM for almost free for a couple of years. Hope they extend it.
Which Amex card did you use?

Got my SIM today. Expected date was 29 Dec but received it a week earlier. Got my SIM activated and connected it with Google Voice.
The email said not to change the number till 45 days of activation which I guess u did. Do you get refill with $10 to cover for 3 months ? or setup as auto refill of $3 per month
