Strategy to obtain US Amex

Hey guys

Just need some advice.

I have the Amex green charge card and had enrolled with autopay to pay with Wise. The payment failed however and the wise rep said to me the reason it failed is because it’s not possible to pay US charge cards with wise. Is this true and been the case with everyone else? How else can I pay the card ASAP? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Yes, I’ve been using wise for 18mths with two separate US cards and it’s worked fine

Can you make a manual payment?

Just to clarify, when you set up autopay did you nominate Wise or Evolve Bank? It should be the latter

No, manual payment failed too. It is set up as evolve bank, the first two times I did it I got a message from wise saying it failed. The second 2 times I tried, it didn’t even come up as usual on the wise app that a charge has been made. It’s not even being recognised and as a result now I’m going to be charged a return payment fee from Amex

Explain to them . They should be able to waive fee first time and grant you an extension

Despite supposedly not allowing delivery of USPS letters, it seems MyUS may just process letters very slowly.

My recent Green card delivery which I assumed was destroyed, ended up available in my suite about 3-4 weeks after delivery. MyUS opened the letter and sent me a photo of the card even!

Side note for those who signed up for the current Green promo - if you have any $200 travel cashback remaining at the end of the 6 month promo, topping up an Opal card is eligible for the cashback.

Does it show your suite number on the letter? I'm curious if it took ages because there was no suite number.

Some patience may be required when mail is delivered via the USPS. They have poor form.

One of my cards seems to have sat at a USPS facility in Sarasota for almost 3 weeks before arrival at MyUS.

Did you set it up as a checking account?
When you tried to manually pay, did Amex include your payment in your balance?
How long did it take for failure messages to come through from Amex and Wise?

I’ve just ran my first manual payment so we’ll see how this goes

Capital one
Tried capital one. Completed application, however asked me to call them on USA number as more information needed.. How do people generally call USA numbers, just suck it up and pay whatever the costs are? I think Optus charges around 44 cents a minute.

Iam starting to wonder if my SSN from 2005/2006 is still good. I know these are meant to be forever but I was only on a student / intern visa at the time so unsure.

Felix mobile has an option for unlimited international calling for an additional $5/month on top of whatever plan you purchase. It’s saved me hundreds of dollars as I frequently call overseas.
Thanks. I am with optus and they offer the same thing for $10 so will do that for now.

A lot of cheap mobile plans like Kogan , Vodafone allow you to call the US for no extra cost apart from monthly fees . Free with Skype as well .

Download talkatone - free US calls and you get a US number too
I actually have it already. Keeps kicking me out and hard to get logged into it again but it does work if you can put up with the messing around.

I got some sms messages on it this morning saying I was sent a 'premium message from short code' but need to subscribe to talk atone plus to receive these.. Was probably verification code I need from HSBC or Capital one..

If I was to travel to the US, is it easy enough to get a SSN? If so then maybe I'll need to go there
You need to right to work and live there i.e. a visa

I use Textnow, and can receive texts / codes from Capital One and AMEX.

Yes, used checking account personal
Amex includes the payment immediately and wise rejects immediately, Amex eventually catches up 2-3 days later and reverses payment.

I’ll try Revolut and see if that works instead

Just applied for IHG Business mentioned they're reviewing. No confirmation email for apply and no record of it via the application line. very strange.

Most likely rejected given that my last chase card was 2 months ago but thought I would give it a shot.

Just looking at the Aeroplan card especially since it has supermarkets as a bonus category and it seems to include AU supermarkets whereas CSP is online grocery only. Does anyone have experience with this card? What are Aeroplan points good for? Sorry if I sound like a bit of a noob - thought asking here might accelerate my research a bit.
