Strategy to obtain US Amex

Has anyone got around the 18 month exclusion for bonus points for Amex oz by cancelling all oz Amex cards and then doing A GT application from US to oz ? Do you think it might work ?
I can't imagine that would work. The new Australian Amex would be added to your Australian credit profile, even if acquired through GT. Presumably that's what they use to check your eligibility for the bonus (no pop ups in Australia).

If one is approved is it possible to check Witt them and receive confirmation that one is elegible for sign up bonus ?

Anyone found a way to use the US gold card's uber and dining credits while in Australia? I assume it's a lost cause but thought I would check

Any further info on where exactly or the search terms to be used ? TIA

I think this was a conversation you had earlier upthread haha. Last I recall the answer was no to both the Uber and Dining credits but I'm not sure if there was any update on that.

Received CIP. Had to call create an account and verified via the Chase app. Super simple. Will try to split a bill via PostBillPay and Auspost in person to see what they come up as. Will report back.

Edit: Looks like my council rates ended up going through as Government Services even though they were paid via PostBillPay. I'm guessing PBP passes that info on to them bank.

Huge news for Chase users: 30% bonus on transfers to Avios until 22 Sep.

Now to decide how much to transfer. If only Qatar would bring back its award availability ....

I received my original AMEX card at MYUS today - stated no suite number - may be a handellng fee of $8.95 - In meantime Amex sent me a replacement card via DHL that I am using - how have people handled telling Myus - can I state I no longer need that package for it to be destroyed?

Am planning on getting additional cards for wife/kids - will disuss with Amex about seeing if can get the sent straight out to Australia via DHL

I told MyUS to destroy / dispose the card.

I am still unhappy about this. Blatant cronyism and it is bad for Aussie consumers.

And while we are OT, I am still unhappy about the Qatari authorities handling of the incident in October 2020. After all, Qatar Airways is a government-owned airline. I understand that the victims have a lawsuit pending

I'm interested in a Citi Premier but very antsy because many people on FT are reporting they get odd fraud alerts and if they can't verify your phone number you have to wait for a snail mail letter with a code to be verified so you can use the card. I will be in LAX in Oct so maybe I can avoid this if I apply in branch?

I had to jump through enough hoops with B of A and Amex to have my identity verified last year and expect Ciiti to be the same if I apply online.

Does anyone have experience with this card?

I activated mine no problem but then had a fraud alert when I tried adding the card to Apple Pay, which they eventually lifted after some SMS verification thing (the code they sent in the mail never arrived).

Initially I also found that when I paid the card the funds weren't credited immediately and often they would hold for 7-14 days before restoring the credit limit unless they would do a 3 way call with my US bank to verify the payment. After a few months this stopped being an issue.

Citi also gave me the lowest limits compared to Cap1, Chase, Amex.

I received an email today from Cap1 ([email protected]) inviting me to try the pre-approval process. Problem is I don't have an ITIN (have an application in progress with the IRS), am not a Cap1 customer, and have never had an interaction with them. I have no idea how they would have my name and email address. I have two amex cards opened via the GT process and a Citi savings account, but nothing else. The Cap1 email was sent to the same address as my amex accounts, and that particular email address is not used on a day-to-day basis. The footer of the email says "This email advertisement was sent to [ my email ]. You received this email as a valued Capital One customer."

So, question for the brains trust: can anyone think of how/why Cap1 has sought me out? Could it be because of my amex cards or ITIN application, is this just an extraordinarily well timed bit of spam, or did my details get leaked somehow?

Update your address to oz and then request additional cards .

CIP just got flagged for fraud. Called and had it resolved.

I've only made a few minor purchases the past two days but I think buying a gift card this evening probably flagged it.

Told them I was in Australia for the next two months ;)

What brand/type of gift card would that be? As far as I am aware Coles/Woolies/supermarket-type gift card purchases don’t ‘code’ as gift cards (for US card data purposes), so just curious as to the transaction that may have caused the purchase to be flagged specifically as a gift card
