Strategy to obtain US Amex

I received a missed call from a number that appears to be from the GT team. Does anyone have any advice before I call the number back?

I can confirm I've receive my Amex Rewards Checking SUB email. I made a few ACH transfers from my HSBC US account and my Revolut account in order to pay my statement for this month.

C1 still an issue. I went through some checks yesterday with the fraud team and they said my account would be ok to activate. I can see the account now. I know I need to enter the security deposits they made to pay HSBC account but not sure where. Any pointers would be appreciated. I feel like it's staring me in the face but I can't see it.

It still keeps wanting to send me SMS codes when I log in. I'll need to get clear on how much that is costing me with T-Mobile but aside from eventually getting their Venture card - they don't like MyUS so I'll need to figure out something there - I'm going to try to get this one done quickly then close it - it's more trouble than it's worth I think.

I'm using my VPN to keep up the "I'm logging in from Florida" consistency as I did when I signed up as a customer. Should I be trying with my VPN turned off?

VPNs normally cause 2FA, sometimes at Amex and Chase too. I don't use VPN with Cap1 and it has been fine. I don't normally use VPN to sign up for US cards as well. I think VPNs make you look more suspicious. If you really want to use VPN and avoid sms charge, how about downloading Cap 1 app? If you have the app, you can use it to verify when trying to login on desktop as well.

Thank you - that’s a good idea. Will do that.

I haven’t completely given up on the Venture CC as I see it potentially as my daily driver (assuming the $A doesn’t crash much more). MyUS won’t work I can access another address that will. I’ve used myUS as my mailing address for years. Will using a different address cause me other unanticipated issues? For instance my whole credit history is there. Might there be another card like the Venture but with another US bank?

When you have a new address, it's best to update existing accounts and wait 30+ days until it is updated in your credit file. It will help with address verfication at some banks.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll need to give it some thought - I'm not keen to change a system that's worked well so far (though looking for Sarasota on Google Maps, it doesn't seem to be ideally located to any major cities - so it would be remote working for me if the question is asked). I'd be happy to avoid C1 and apply for another bank's card which earns 2x on all categories and no FX fees. Not sure if there is such a product - keen to hear about it from the brains trust on here - there is a lot of collective knowledge :)

Cap1's preapproval tool still doesn't like me. Flat out NO using the Venture X tool. And the generic one is only offering Savor1, Quicksilver and one other one, none of which have SUBs.

There isn't another general 2x card which is why the Venture Rewards is so attractive.

I sent a bit over $500 from Revolut to Amex on Sep 28. Got email $250 bonus is on its way on Oct 4. Bonus hit my account Oct 5.
There are 2 Revolut apps. One for personal, the other for business.

When you sent this to American Express I assume you used an Australian account via ACH and not an American Revolut, with fedwire?

I am just trying to see if you did a normal international bank transfer vs. a business banking transfer with Revolut to qualify for the checking bonus?

I only have a personal account (AU) so it was just a normal transfer.

Awesome, thank you 🙏

I did mine today and was hoping it’s just a normal transfer and I had done the same with my new Chase account so I’m hoping both will trigger for $450 USD.

Chase = $200
Amex = $250

EDIT: Seems my deposit already went in, really quick from Revolut to American Express :)
