Strategy to obtain US Amex

DP - HSBC US blocked my account as linked up WISE via ACH and did a pull transfer - they could not verify me at the other bank (Wise had me a Community Trust Bank) - they have blocked log in access - had to call fraud centre and they are waiting for the transfer to go through - not sure if others had issue but I have had HSBC not happy with 2 ACH transfers done - wire seems fine
Wise sending to HSBC is fine too
I’ve funded my HSBC US account 3 times via WISE. 2 show as ACH transfer, the most recent one shows as RTP transfer. I’ve then sent several ACH payments to my Amex Checking.

I don’t think I’ve done a ‘pull transfer’ as you put it though as I’ve always pushed from WISE into HSBC

BTW if anyone hasn’t checked out the Amazon US spend with MR points offers I suggest it’s worth a look. I had 50% off up to $80 so just got a pair of AirPod Pro 2 for US$77 and 1 point! Sent for free to my MYUS address (And I already had an Amazon US gift card balance so it actually cost me just 1 point!)

Do you need to create a Amazon US account for this?

I applied for the cap1 biz venture card 3 wks back and was instantly approved after using the pre-approval tool.

They requested I upload a copy of my US ID or US driver license. I've uploaded my passport, aust driver license and copy of my ITIN instead. Hoping for the best, the documents were accepted and currently still waiting for the card to arrive.

Hopefully no issues with the card activation like I had with Chase.
I want this card but I don't have any room in my 5/24 slot :(

Does anyone know if a return payment charge (ie Amex unable to process a direct debit so they try again in a day but charge you $29 for the failed payment) would affect a subsequent GT ?

I’ve had 2 failed direct debits (but they were processed the following day) due to mis reading of iBKR’s available funds… the Amex was never overdue, these were payments to clear balances ahead of large spends

Should I wait a month or more before trying to GT, or will it make no difference as long as the Amex account is paid up ?

I was applying online for the hsbc us checking premiere account for my wife who is premiere in oz .
I noticed condition 3 for eligibility . She would not meet any of the conditions . However she does have US Amex card accounts .

Any ideas for a work around ?
What have others used ?
TIA
You don't need to meet the criteria if you meet Premier somewhere else, I have HSBC AU/US/UK/HK & Expat (Jersey) on the back of Australia, and credit cards with 3/5 of those.

Damn sorry to hear - I hope it sorts out
Worst case scenario can you port your number out to Tello - not sure if that is an option to keep the number
I think there was a person here recently who ported from TextNow to Tello so they may be able to give some DP on how easy it was
Agree with this - I didn't ever use Textnow, but ported from T-Mob to Tello, was done in minutes.

Does anyone know how well Amex pick up Australian restaurants for the Gold 4x points? My first restaurant charge (only a Pizza!) coded at 1x but given it was only $32 I’m not going to bother querying if they’re usually pretty good and future more epxneivse charges code ok
Pretty well, but if the MCC is out, then it's out - I have a hotel I stay at in HK which codes as a restaurant - when I realised, I now use Gold instead of Green to pay the bill.

I've had this happen. If you have a failed payment all applications will be rejects at 30 days

Thanks . I have just had the checking account approved .
We wish to apply for the premier credit card and are currently in Thailand for a while .
Does anyone know if changing the address to Thailand and applying with throw up a fraud alert ?
Which of the addresses need to be changed to Thailand to receive the card here ? Just mailing ?

Really ?? On what grounds ?
As a one time goodwill gesture . No grounds as such . Usually waived . No harm in asking .

I know . My Uk card just just closed for non use .
What is the benefit of HK premiere card ? Does one need an actual hk address ?

I never leave it that tight from IBKR as they take a while to move across (but are the cheapest)
yes I’ve learnt the hard way…

The first time it was actually iBKR’s fault - funds showed as available for withdraw before T+3 (they normally show as unavailable), so I thought they must have processed it super quickly

This most recent time was my fault - I misread my balance as it shows a ‘Total cash’ amount which is actually in primary currency (AUD), not USD

Anyway, even if I did wear both $29 charges, it’s still cheaper than Wise !

Particularly if you set up direct debit from Amex card to the iBKR US account. Unlike with ACH, there is no monthly limit/fee

Did you have an application rejected under these circumstances but then approved 30+ days later ?

I don't have the HK credit card, only the account so far (along with a UnionPay ATM card and Mastercard Debit card, no idea why both).

No HK address needed, but they did ask countless questions and I had to prove I really was in HK as much as I said I was (which was easy enough as I have all those paper slips from the e-channel fingerprint machine). They specifically asked for proof of at least 4x entries in the last 12 months. No other HSBC country has cared at all. I think I was on something like 14 entries since Covid (actual entries, not transit) and prior to that my last entry was March 2020, so the gap was solely due to the pandemic, I genuinely am in HK that regularly.

Mailing address would do it, but be warned HSBC are pretty trigger happy when it comes to fraud alerts - I couldn't withdraw cash from a HSBC ATM in Bermuda the other day because it blocked me, yet a $7 ATM withdrawal in Sri Lanka was fine. The good thing is that as soon as you verify, it unblocks immediately, but my phone wouldn't roam in Bermuda, so I had to make alternative arrangements.
