Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've just got access to all 3 of the credit reports through the $1 equifax trial and noticed the address is written incorrectly for all 3 of them:

TU: The street name is written twice and no st abbreviation.
Experian: No St abbreviation
Equifax: No Apartment number.

Just checking if these are big issues that needs to be disputed asap or doesn't matter? (I also couldn't create an account with Myfico, the customer service noted conflicting info with what I provided with those on the credit report)

Reading other people have similar issues online and is a pita to fix.

So MyFICO can’t help me - pointed me at annualcreditreport.com (which obviously doesn’t work with an ITIN)

Equifax say there is no sign of any credit file with either me ITIN or with my addresses. They said I need to check with Amex or HSBC if they have reported the information. Is it possible they haven’t in 6 months?

Good advice. I figured would be easy for them to see with an AU card but seems they can do it for US just as easily. Only way around it (but still risky) is charge a mate a guess (and vice versa)

There’s also potentially tax implications as the payment might be considered income

I'm thinking of buying some prepaid cards and see if they go through.
I'm going to use this payment as return of director loan or advance payment for services (with eventual cancellation of the contract) etc etc few options to play around with...

Don’t the prepaid cards only have a mag stripe and therefore you won’t’ be able to use them on the reader?

How long ago did you get your first Amex? Mine was only August so I’m wondering if I’m just trying too soon

My ITIN was only set up in Oct and only notified Amex of the number in Jan too

First amex was back in June 2020. Got the ITIN last year Sep 2024.


For those that applied for the Square eftpos machine. Did you already have a business?

Don’t the prepaid cards only have a mag stripe and therefore you won’t’ be able to use them on the reader?

Yeah that probably sounds right. Don't think our card readers are capable of it, isn't? I was able to insert the card yesterday but didn't check for swipe option.
I think there is also an option to manually enter card details on the app. Will try it later today, I've a small bal sitting on an EFTPOS card...

I signed up with my ABN - but you can sign up without as a casual user.

You missed a deal last week for a free reader and $5000 fee free transactions sadly

Experian is a no no - even on a VPN with US number to verify (also with that device on same VPN) I got this : We have encountered an internal system error. Please note that your order has been canceled. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Transunion - no joy either

Hope this is a 1 week and not 400 week shipping time, hope Amex doesn't ring and ask why I haven't activated my card 3 months later. Really don't want to rock boat and ask for first card to be expedited to Aus.

Good to know. Always failed for me with US cards, but not with Australian, so thought that was the issue.

Chase cards worked there as well. The funny thing is my Australian cards never worked at giftcards.com.au. While the category was groceries at Chase, merchant type was miscellaneous general merchandise, not grocery stores and supermarkets like when using at Coles stores. Aeroplan card does not get 3x.

When the card is declined, try again with some different info especially email and phone number. Ip was never the issue for me but either email or phone. Doesn't always work though.

Don't worry too much. I have moved 4 times and there was no Dr, Ave, or Road showing for all addresses in all 3 bureaus in EQ 3-bureau report. TU has double N (North) and double W (West) for 2 of my streets.

Anything other personal info for EX? Addresses are showing fine for me but blank for Name, SSN/ITIN and date of birth. Trying to figure out if this is the cause of the issue I have been having with Chase. Chase only pulled EX and TU for my current address.

Name & DOB are all showing for me correctly including my middle initial.
SSN/ITIN is showing xx_x-0000 for EX and TU which I've read is normal as they don't link the ITIN.

Don't believe so, HSBC has limited transfer partners.

Likely just a welcome call. Amazed you have an RM though. I lost mine about 10 years ago (Though didn’t notice!)

I was also surprised that I received a phone call from a Premier Relationship manager
